I'm smoking a cigar in the lounge. A big fat Cohiba.
I'm smoking it under the rubric that, hey, I have rights, and if you don't like the smell, then don't breath any air with the smoke molecules in it or go elsewhere. It shouldn't be up to me to find someplaece else to smoke. You should be more accepting and tolerant. Smokers have a right to be in the Lounge, too. Would you deny food to a starving child in a restaurant just because he was making noise? Would you demand that a handicapped person return their shopping cart? Would you expect a pregnant woman to stand up on the subway? Is it okay to expect a child to do his own appendectomy? Is it okay to force to a teenager to burn his house down just so that his dad will make alimony payments? Where's the government's role in all this? What about allowing foreigners to vote in our elections? And when was the last time, really, that you had to endure a charlatan huckstering his newfangled "difference engine" at your front door? Is this really a crime? When do we start making Snowy Owls have hunting permits? What's the limit on grapes going to be in the future - seven? Isn't it time that someone did something about that thing? What about when we get to the point that the California seashore will be fined for non-compliance with OSHA standrads? Do we really want this kind of slippery slope?

1. Do you also smear yourself in cat excrement in public?
The smell is almost as bad. Less toxic, however. :P~

6. LOL! Have you no sensitivity?
What if that parent was bringing kids from the other parent's funeral after their house burned down and all they had were some red cross food vouchers for that restaurant and the other kids hadn't eaten in two days?

You bastard!!

10. LOL! But you forgot the cross country trip.
What if that parent was bringing kids from the other parent's funeral which was across the country after their house burned down and all they had were some red cross food vouchers for that restaurant and the other kids hadn't eaten in two days?

If you're gonna call me a bastard, at least have the cross country trip in there. It's more realistic.

Edited on Wed Feb-23-05 08:59 AM by Rabrrrrrr
that if women are somehow exempt from what should be the logically mandated exercise of actually CHECKING if the lid is up or down before she starts her thing, than I, too, am exempt. So let the pee fly where ere it will.

9. Yeah, But You're A Lawbreaker If. . .
. . .those are Cuban Cohiba cigars. I'm telling the gov't! I'm telling the gov't!

And, since i'm actually a 20+ year cigar smoker, i can honestly say: Get that stinky thing out of here! My wife doesn't allow me to smoke in the house (She gets to, not me, though.) so you don't get to smoke in the lounge. So there.

12. Ah, but I've declared my apartment actually a part of Cuba
:-)

Too bad about the people who don't allow their spouses to smoke cigars in the house. 'tis a sacred right, IMO. My partner let me, thank God. But then again, I did it once a month at most. If I were doing it every day, even I would get tired of the stink. Same with cigarette smoke - every day, it gets gross.

32. Still Not Worth The Money
I've had several. Some i bought, some i was given. But, as good as they are, they are not worth paying 2x or more over the cost of a very good Dominican.

They are good, but they aren't THAT much better.

33. I think I'd have to disagree
I've only had Cubans twice, but both times they were the smoothest tastiest cigars I have run across. In contrast, the Dominican Cohibas I've had I thought were bitter.
Maybe I just got some bad ones...I go with Cohiba when I can, and I would have expected Dominican Cohibas to be better quality.

35. Try Fuente Or Romeo e Julieta (Dominica)
The Cubans are really, really good. Don't get me wrong.

I just think that for $10 less (or even cheaper) you can get an incredibly good Dominican.

I'd recommend something like a Fuente 8-5-8. It's a 48 ring, 5.75" cigar that burns evenly, slowly and is silky smooth. If you want to step a notch in price in Fuente's, try one the Hemingway series, like the Imperiale (52 ring by 7.5") or the Masterpiece (56 by 8.5").

The R&J's are also superb. Almost any size and length are good. They're pricier than Fuente's but still cheaper than Cubans.

For a unique tasting cigar try an Acid. They are cedar and mangrove cured, so they have a HIGHLY aromatic bouquet and a somewhat musty, but very pleasant taste. Unlike anything i've ever tried.

That's what i can think of from memory right now, that might change your mind. There's others, but they're not any cheaper than Cubans, so it defeats the purpose of bringing this up.

36. I've seen Acids-I'll have to give them a try
Also, I should add that the first Cuban I had was in Canada, and since they are legal for import there, wasn't much more than any others. This was also several years ago. The second one was a gift, so I have no idea what it cost. This of course biases my idea of how much they cost-if I had to pay $50+ for a cigar, I'd go with something much cheaper with similar quality too!

38. Quick Story On Cubans
I know i'm sort of hijacking so i'll make this as short as possible.

A hardware vendor in Germany had us over for a visit and technical review of their technology. They had an elaborate luncheon in the excutive dining room. Great food, aperitifs, wine, the whole deal.

When we were done, the main guy asked if anyone wanted a smoke. One of my companions told him i smoked cigars, so he handed me one from a cedar lined drawer under this incredibly dining table.

I was reluctant to light up in a room full of people, so i told him so and handed the cigar back to him. He told me keep it.

So, at the hotel in Frankfurt, i asked the kitchen for some aluminum foil and i wrapped and put in my luggage.

Four days later, i stopped at the Oakbrook Tobacco company (where the Chicago illuminatti buy their cigars) and asked the guy there if he ever heard of this brand. He takes out a book and looks at the different cigar bands. He looks up at me and asks "Where'd you get this?" So, i told him the story.

He offered me $500 on the spot. Fancying myself the negotiator, i told him i would trade for 3 boxes of their pyramides, maduro. (2 bills a box of 20). He said ok.

Turns out this thing was PRE-CASTRO CUBAN! That cigar had been in a humidor in Germany since 1958.

Last bit: I stopped there a couple weeks later and asked him if he smoked it, and how was it. He said no. He called Michael Jordan and asked him if he wanted it. Jordan said yes. Price: $900!

How about them apples?

I wonder what the old aged ones taste like... would love to try one some day!

But, good as it might be, I'd probably rather have the three boxes of pyramides than just the one cigar.

37. Here's A List Of My Common Buys
Fuente: 8-5-8; Canones; Hemingway Masterpiece.

Don Lino: Colorado Cedar (These are strong, pungent cigars and these are my everyday smokes. My vin ordinaire, if you will. Not too expensive bought in bulk.)

Hoya de Monterrey: Excalibur #1.

Acid: #8's.

As you can tell, i like the fat ones. At least a 48 ring, but i prefer a 52 or 56.

The Don Lino's i do buy in bulk. When i say i smoke cigars, i mean I SMOKE CIGARS. I smoke probably 3 or 4 every day. (Sometimes more, and hardly ever less than 2.) I buy direct from an importer that a friend who lives in the Keys set me up with. So, i buy them bundled, (no boxes), and bundles are bundled together. I get 200 at a time.

I like strong tasting cigars. The ones everyone says are smooth and mild are probably those that i wouldn't be wild about. I don't consider myself a conniseur. I just know what i like. I don't want hot and harsh, but i do want big and bold. If i wanted mild and light, i'd smoke a pipe. Know what i mean?

13. I go out on the screen porch.
My choice, not my wife's rule. Gives me a little break, a little time to gaze out on the back yard, trees, critters, and so on.

Unless it's REALLY cold. No sense in carrying things to an extreme.
