This morning, I learned of the tragic passing of Molly, Mrs. Grumpy's Sim. Although I'd only known Molly a short while, she came to be as a member of my own family. Her infectious laugh, the way she tossed her hair, her ability to always be there for her friends through thick and thin -- it was these things that made Molly the kind of person one never can forget. Not that I'd ever want to.

Old age should burn and rave at close of day;

And now she's gone. Because of a kitchen fire. A fucking kitchen fire; it would be funny if it weren't so fucking heartbreaking. She never was much of a cook, she always said. But now, I'll never get to hear her bitch about the cake falling or the fish coming out under- or over-cooked again. And it tears me apart to be forced by fate to face that fact.

I met Molly during a very hard time in my life. I was wrestling demons nobody should ever have to face, even when they bring it on themselves. I honestly didn't know if I would ever see the light of day again. But she was there, like an angel in her radiance and kindness, and she extended her hand to me. She pulled me from my barren ground and brought me into the verdant pasture of Life, with a capital fuckin' L, she picked me up and taught me to believe again. She taught me what it truly meant to be a friend. And, in my conversations over the past 12 hours with some of the many people who loved her, I found that I am far from the only one.

Last week, Molly and I had an argument. Quite a dust-up, really. It seems she'd started seeing someone new, someone I didn't think was good enough for her. Truth be told, I may have been a bit jealous. Still, it started from that, and then just ballooned; and passive-agressive prick that I am, it soon spiraled out of control. Last week. We never spoke again. The last word Molly ever spoke to me was "whatever" before she slammed down the receiver.

I never got to say good-bye. I never got to tell her that I loved her.
