MY Speech to Local Dems
I hope to carry it out tomorrow night, but here's what I have done so far:

Ladies and gentlemen,

President Bush used the words 'children' and 'grandchildren' eight times in his latest State of the Union Address. He used 'future' four in both his State of the Union Address and the Inaugural Address.

What do children and grandchildren, the future, think about this? Speaking not only for myself, but on behalf of all America's youth, it is imminent to realize we are not just the future, but we are the future of America and we are guaranteed to our Constitutional rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

*Applause pause*

These rights cannot and shall not be legislated away from the current generation and the generations to coeme. With the recent plan of voluntary private accounts -- or let's call it what it is, voluntary privatization -- of social security. Whether or not you are for or against the idea, it is common sense that it will affect the next generation. Legislators in Washington have shwon their opposition to paying for social security with a tax increase on today's generation, so we, the youth, yet again get the bill.

Finally, I am a Democrat because I believe we are the party of the people. I am a Democrat because we are the party that proposed Social Security, medicare, and diplomacy before pre-emptive action. We are Democrats and we are dreamers who dream of a better world and a better America. We are the party of Purple-heart winners in Massachusetts to general practice doctors in California to car mechanics in Alabama. We are the party that stands up for America's youth. We are the Democratic Party who stands up for kids bullyed on the school playgrounds of Kentucky to civilians tortured overseas in Iraq. We are the Democratic Party and we are the party of America.

Thank you.

4. Wow, I'm very impressed
At 12 years old, I was mainly concerned about rock and roll and boys.

Well done, and good luck! :yourock:

9. a few suggestions
i'm hearing a "generational anger" in your speech ... republicans love to find ways to divide the country ... north vs. south, old vs. young, white vs. black, christians vs. non-christians, real americans vs. immigrants, urban vs. rural, and of course, rich vs. poor ...

not once in your speech did you acknowledge the importance of maintaining a social safety net for ALL Americans ... please understand, i deeply commend you for pointing out the burden bush's "private accounts" will ultimately place on the young ... the young will indeed suffer the most under this plan ...

but any speech that states "we are the party that stands up for America's youth" without also citing that "we are all young and we are all old" misses the central point of what the Democratic Party should be about ... we need to stand up for the needs of ALL our citizens both young and old ...

I think your speech is off to a good start but you need to show compassion for ALL generations, not just your own ... we must not allow bush and his greedy followers to put any generation at risk ... our elderly are often very vulnerable ... most are living on fixed incomes and can do little to improve their financial situations ... cutting benefits to those unable to procure life's necessities is a cruelty Americans should not tolerate ... and, as you pointed out, burdening the generations to come is not the solution either ...

it's great to see people of your generation taking part in the process and having the courage to say your piece to the established powers ... a little tweak here and a little tweak there and i think your message will be very well received ... keep up the good work ...

10. Thank you! This is exactly what I wanted.
I need suggestions, and I'll tweak.

"we are the party that stands up for America's youth" will become "we are the party that stands up for America's youth and America's seniors."

11. you're going to be great, kid !!
we must never allow the right-wing republicans to get away with generational warfare ... that's exactly what bush is trying to do ... the truth is that ALL Americans should care about the young, the generation of your parents and and the generation of your grandparents ...

only cynical, greedy types would try to set one generation against another ... real "family values" means standing up for the entire family, both young and old alike ...

12 years old eh? you're gonna blow 'em away !!!
