It just seems too "ordinary" for him. I just don't see this as the way he lived his life. He would have picked something much more "way out" than his kitchen, FGS! Or, if I had been him...I for sure would have...:shrug:

Why not find a really crazy place that fits him to do "the deed" and then have your ashes shot out of the cannon for "MAXIMUM EFFECT." You get double publicity for the first "out" and then the "spectacular grand finale?"

Maybe HST was trying to say to us "Hey, I was ordinary...so I picked the Kitchen because it signifies where we all gather...the heart and soul of humanity is the "Kitchen." From "birth to death" we always need to EAT.

Maybe Hunter's EXIT has more significance because of that. He picked the kitchen to blow it out and then let's his remains go off in the "Cannon." The ultimate of "split" in his soul...or his character or whatever. I'm "of the Kitchen, he says" (common man) but I will let what's left "that I don't know about ('cause I'm outta here)" go off in "BIG STYLE!"

3. I think he made a big mistake

They say he was depressed because he was some months out from back and hip surgery and broke his leg to boot, and he was worried about being a burden and having people take care of him, didn't want to be an invalid.

But, having known many people who have been thru all that, I think that he overreacted and should have given himself time to heal.

Unless the back/hip/leg injury was just a tidy media excuse. I mean, does anyone in their right mind kill themselves?

think he would have enjoyed the mystery of folks looking for him...and wouldn't have wanted to leave a "mess."

Suicide leaves a mess...whether it's the bathroom, kitchen or wherever..it's a mess. And "someone" has to clean it up...and "someone" has to walk in that room and remember someone they loved, "checked out" leaving that mess behind for them to clean up.

I would have thought he'd do it more "independently." A "Gonzo Blow Out" that was like the life he lived. I wouldn't have thought he'd leave a "mess" for someone else to pick up and deal with. :shrug: There's nothing I saw in his writing that showed he would have wanted to leave his life to someone to clean up after him.

17. Not really.

I just dispatch all of the calls, type the reports and see all of the pics from the nasty mess. I have also been on ridealongs and have witnessed it firsthand. The nastiest wasn't even a suicide-it was a natural death.
I figure that, since I have a really strong stomach, why not? At least I would be preforming a service for the families and I would not rip them off, like some do.

I take 9-1-1 calls from people who attempt suicide or from the family members who find them.
Many of them do want to be found easily. Most don't hide in a closet or an unused area. They are usually found out in the open.
I have had exactly one call where it was a person who didn't want to be found. They found him two weeks later in the middle of a cornfield. The rest always wanted to be found-quickly.

22. Think of it this way:

HST didn't use his kitchen like everyone else. It was his office. He did all his writing there, watch all his sports programs there. It was where he felt the most comfortable.

I too will miss his writing. But, Doc knew what pain he was in. It was his choice not ours. I'm just glad that he existed when he did. He made a helluva impression on a lot of people.

I hope he found the peace he wanted and needed.

I'd blow my brains out right here at home with all my familiar things around me.
