Question on American public service.
I attended the annual convention of thre Ontario Cattleman's Association today and we were addressed by US Ambassador Paul Cellucci.

BTW his bodyguards take themselves very seriously, they have no sense of humour. I Am A Shitdisturber.

Anyway, he's talking away, blah, blah, blah and says theat "it has been his priveledge to serve President Bush and the American people for the last 4 years"

Is that normal usage? Do Ambassadors "serve" the President?

1. I'd guess that would be the appropriate term
People are always saying that they serve at the request of the President (no matter who is President). So the way it is phrased doesn't particularly strike me as odd.
