6. *grrrr* The Golden hat! It's from the bronze age...
It's extremely valuable. It had been announced that Laura Bush would visit the Gutenberg-Museum in Mainz... The Golden Hat is not usually in a Mainz museum. Nor would it just be standing around on a table with other stuff. Evidently they carried stuff from all over Germany to Mainz and stuffed it in one room so the dumbwit wife could have a three minute glance at some of our most treasured objects. The more I read about the "charm offensive" the more pissed I get!

10. Hey NewEurope
Did you read Spiegel's article on his visit yesterday? Just curious, as I saw the same phrase there (charm offensive) and wondered just how widespread it was!

12. Yes, I read it... they're using "charm offensive" all over the place.
Mainly I think because the biggest news agencies are in US-hands and our papers just quickly translate/don't do much editing (costly). Which also makes for a big cultural influence of the US. :( That "charm offensive" has me near puking.

14. It's a wizard's hat!
At least, that's the current theory: WIZARDS really did wear tall pointed hats - but not the crumpled cloth kind donned by such fictional characters as Harry Potter, Gandalf and Merlin.

The wizards of early Europe wore hats of gold intricately embellished with astrological symbols that helped them to predict the movement of the sun and stars.

This is the conclusion of German archaeologists and historians who claim to have solved the mystery behind a series of strange yet beautiful golden cone-shaped objects discovered at Bronze Age sites across Europe.

Truly fascinating. But this wonderful artifact seems a bit fragile to haul around Germany for Laura's pleasure.

19. Must have been some well off Wizards in Germany in the Old Days...
not to mention some w/exceptionally strong neck muscles. A Golden Hat would have been incredibly heavy,, and even if merely Gold Plated, would have been ridiculously awkward to say the least...:)

I wonder if those that research such things truly think about what they are looking at.

Caveat: I have no idea what it is myself, but a 'hat' would be far from my first impresson...

17. Yeah, I saw the picture...
Couldn't figure out if that was a look of revulsion or longing on the face of the young lady posing next to the bottle...

I've seen the autopsy report on John dillenger, too. "Nothing remarkable" is how the attending described his package....:-)
