1. I had clients who had that done

Every one of them regretted it.

Of course, it's all dependent on the situation, but get a zillion opinions, if you can, and - seriously - get in touch with people who've had it done. Ask your physician if you could talk to some of his patients who've undergone the procedure.

If the doctor refuses to do that, I'd say you're dealing with the wrong physician.

3. Oh shit.

Given my circumstances, it was recommended by TWO neurosurgeons, both who sounded very competent.

I went through with it.

So far, no problems - but, so far, I've not regretted it. Of course, I can't exactly move my neck for a while until they take some x-ray followups... but given how the disc was pressing against my spine so deeply, and disliking the concept of paralysis, I went ahead with it.

2. My mother had this done about 1 1/2 years ago

Best thing she ever did for her back. She was in a lot of pain for about 2 years before having the procedure done. She was laid up in the hospital for about a week or 10 days, she also has high blood pressure that made the stay longer than normal. About 2 - 3 months after the procedure, she was feeling pretty good...she did have to wear a brace for quite sometime following the surgery.

5. Wow... they let me out of hospital after 1 DAY.

And getting into the car was hard.; I made a feeble attempt to ask to stay but they thought it best that leaving was the better thing to do.

6. Like I said, my mom has other health issues - she was also about 62

when she had it done. Am glad to hear you got to go home sooner, generally people "heal" faster at home, than in the hospital.
