Why I will never watch American Idol again:
So I watched it Monday-Wednesday.

Nice to know Nadia is still on, but otherwise I'm less than impressed with the show.

So, why won't I watch?

1. People who were clearly more talented were voted off.

2. That talentless hack who couldn't sing Seal's "Kiss From a Rose" worth a damn didn't get voted off.

3a. FOX says not to call in multiple times yet actively does NOTHING to prevent that from happening (with caller ID, it should be damn easy to control voting).

3b. Also, are 866 numbers toll-free? They ought to be if they aren't.

4. Simon can bleat all he wants about finding originality amongst the contestants. Yet he's praised people who sound no different than any other contender, seemed to grasp at every optimistic syllable for people who were not that good, and on Tuesday, seemed to be somewhat rude to a singer who seemed better than her competition that night!

Screw the show and these karaoke dunces (except for Nadia and the guy who was kicked off yesterday). It's not about talent. It's about looks and what the pre-pubescent 8 year old children want and therefore is mental diarrhea.

Next week: My review of the CBS hit "Supernanny". Well, it's so short I can do it now: Supernanny is an uber-formulaic series. Every episode is the same thing, just with a different set of parents and everything ALWAYS works in the end.

4. Congrats!

I was drawn in, just to see... and now I saw. It's a farce.

Happy Birthday, too!

17. Make that FIVE people in the US who has never watched
American Idol.

I just don't get what people see in that and many of the so called reality shows.

I would like to see a comparison between the number of votes on American Idol versus the number of votes for president.

We know which votes actually COUNT.

3. You will watch again.
They always do :-)

866 numbers are toll free (they ran out of 800 numbers). I am glad they got rid of the guy who san the CCR song, the judges liked him, I did not. I wish they would get rid of the girl that looks/sound like Janis from friends.

5. Hmmm.... I liked his voice... but very few people can
sing someone else's song and make it better. That was his mistake. Still, he wasn't the best either...

The only artist I know of who CAN sing another's song, even to the miracle point of making it "theirs", is Tina Turner. (and "Proud Mary" was a CCR song too! :-) )

Still, I'll keep hoping for Nadia and maybe even vote for her again. Yes, I did vote. and I'd rather do my part so that someone legit wins.

So, unfortunately and equally obviously for a just cause, I will be watching again. Just for this season. Just for Nadia. (I'm a gay guy so I'm not interested in her goodies.) Just so Nadia can win because, of all of the top 24 there, she's the best. :D

12. 7th Singer on Tuesday. Or, to be much more detailled:
She's the one who had an infinitely more powerful stage presence than all the others combined. Energetic, engaging, and exciting, it was a star swimming with a gaggle of mediocrity.

She's got a funky hairdo (as if she stuck her nose in a light socket but, atypically, the style works for her stage presence) but she's talented.

I wish I could remember the song, though.

18. Meant to answer your question before....
Nadia sang "power of Love" by Christian-roc crossover singer Ashley Cleveland.

9. The "results" show is an exercise in sadism
The way Seacrest made them sweat it out, then afterwards he "interviewed" the loser on how they "felt", like a reporter asking the guy who's house just burned down what he is "feeling".

Why not grind broken glass in their hand while they are at it and pour in lemon juice? It could be like fear Factor!

(And Constantine is not a talentless hack, you may not like him but he does have some talent HT....) But I picked Nadia from early on. Or Bo. Please, let it be a musician and not some 13 year old's view of 'cute'!

13. Point taken; he could have been nervous and as that song is a fave of mine
I simply had to lash at the judges who, if I remember rightly, could find no fault.

But as the judges had oft said, the singers need to do something that's representative of themselves. Constantine may have been nervous or picked the wrong song to represent himself with as the feeling was not there... and it is also true that to make it to the top 24, it takes a lot.

7. I've still never seen it.
Not a big fan of "karaoke dunces" as you put it, and which I might steal if I have occasion, and with your permission.

Can't help it, I tend to privilege self-contained bands that create their own repertoires over singers who do others' material with backing tapes or hired-gun hack bands.

10. the first girl who was voted off last night looked like she was
ready to hit someone. She was mad. But I have to admit her singing sucked. Still they are sadistic the way they do it.

14. She was bad, but people love the judges being cruel... Now,
there's one thing such as a fun-filled jabbing (any episode of Match Game represents this well), but these are real people. Using the harshness as seen in the British 1993 sitcom "Chef!" towards real people is mean-spirited, period. (a new reality show, based on the chefs industry, produced by Brit producer Paul Jackson (Red Dwarf and I think he did Chef! as well), will be airing in America soon as well.)

Americans have simply lost the boundry between sitcom content and real life.

19. You know what I've never liked about it?
The age limit and the focus on appearance.

Thank God things weren't that way back when Patsy Cline was getting her start. She wasn't unattractive, but she woulda NEVER made it today. Never. And she could sing her ASS off.
