My new CD bruner keeps screwing me over (advice needed)
During burning..the friggin thing stops and says all this crap about encountering an error and having to shut down..the only option it gives is to send error report..then nothing happens...any ideas?

1. What program are you using to burn the cds?
Are you just using Windows XP? Or are you using a particular program like CDRWin or Nero?

9. Ahead's Nero Burning ROM.....will solve all of your problems.
Its buffer underrun protection makes all the difference. I've burned roughly 300 CDs and made exactly 2 coasters...and all I use are generic, on-sale-for-5-cents-each-after-rebate-Office-Max-off-brand CDs.

8. well, I must admit I've never heard of NTI, but I found their website...
Without being at the computer (I'm really not that good at tech support over the internet,) I'd have to say it might just be the burner program.

You could re-install the burner program. That might work.
Or you could download a free demo of another program out there. Many of them have trial uses.
If you're using Windows XP (ugh, but a necessary evil for me) then you can just put the blank cd in the drive, open a window to the files you want to burn, and drag them to the cd.

Anyone else?

3. Put some ice skates on it...Dress it in black...
And send it to a party...

If it comes back, keep it...

If not, let it go...

12. Several things to try
-Disable your screensaver, and as many 'background' programs and processes that you can.
-Throw away your blank cds and buy a different brand.
-Slow down the recording speed (within your burning program).
-If you're burning files from your hard drive, put them all in one dirctory, and defrag your drive before burning.
-Make sure your burning program is made for your operating system (never use the basic burning package included with the burner. Buy the full version. Read the box to make sure it is compatable with your operating system.

Don't forget to hold your tounge the right way, and face toward the north while standing on your head while spinning counterclockwise, and also, the secret cd burning chant is changed weekly, so make sure you know the latest one! (Just kidding. Duh.)

13. Did You Hear About The Latest RIAA Lawsuit?
A guy just hit the "Shift" key that disabled the copy protection when downloading music on CD's and wrote about it.

15. switch brands of CD's
I've had really good luck with Kodak Gold Ultimas (although they are rather pricey) but even with the cheapies, some work better than others.
