I was shocked to find out Richard Dawson was still alive.
I thought for sure he was dead.

Any celebrities that you have been surprised to find are still alive?

1. I think you're wrong on this
Dawson committed suicide close to 10 years ago. He had depression and alcohol issues.

5. Nope. The IMDB doesn't lie regularly about deaths.

That said, Dawson does have alcohol issues.

10. nope, i thought so too
but in fact, it was his replacement, Ray Combs, who committed suicide.

RICHARD DAWSON was a game show giant in the 1970s, first as a panelist on the goofy Match Game and then as host of TV's Family Feud. His career ground to a halt in the mid-1980s, and by the 1990s rumors were circulating that Dawson was dead. Possibly the rumor-mongers were thinking of Dawson's successor as host of Family Feud, Ray Combs, who really did commit suicide in 1996.

9. I'm always amazed Abe Vigoda is still alive.
In fact, I believe it's his birthday today.

He's appeared a few times to debunk rumours of his demise.

At this point, I'm convinced he'll live to bury us all.

I just found out from this site that TV preacher Gene Scott died. That was one strange mofo.

19. David MacCullum (Ilya Kuriaken(sp?)) from Man from U.N.C.L.E.
I was startled to see him play a bit part in a recent tv show. I thought he was dead. Not only was he alive, he looked to be in pretty good shape. Dunno if that was plastic surgery or what, but I would never guess at how old he probably is. Consider he was in an Outer Limits episode in early 1960's, where he was at least 30 or older.

20. On a related subject...
Let me preface this by saying that I'm a huge admirer of Hunter S. Thompson. But I think even he would have been amused by the "shock" of people who heard of his passing. Considering the quantity and variety of drugs and alcohol that he absorbed in his lifetime, I'd say it's a freaking miracle that a) he lived to such a comparative ripe old age and that b) it wasn't the drugs that killed him.
