There Are Two Things I Can't Get With My Employee Discount At Wal-Mart
Edited on Fri Feb-25-05 12:57 AM by Magic Rat
1. Food (because food is tax-free and thus, would exceed the 10% off that I get as an employee).

2. Cigarettes (which is fine by me, since I don't smoke now anyways).

Oddly enough, one thing I can purchase with my employee discount are gift cards. I can literally buy a $100 gift card for $90, a $50 gift card for $45, a $200 gift card for $180.

I get money off of money. So if I ever need to do my shopping at Wal-Mart, I can literally scam the company out of as much money as I need.

On top of that, I get a discount on whatever else (minus the food and smokes) that I buy with the gift card.

I really need to stop thinking of ways to rip off the places I work for.

2. Can you buy gift cards with gift cards and your discount?
That is to say, could you parlay $5 into $5000?

3. is walmart one of those places where...
as long as you buy something you can get cash back on your gift certificates...i had a bunch of toys r us gift certs, and if you had one for 100 bucks, and bought something for 50 cents, they'd give you 99.50 back in cash. if so, you could make a nice profit.

5. no
they have gift CARDS. Its not a slip of paper anymore. They just put the remaining balance right back onto the card.

If you come into the store without a receipt and want your money back, they give you a gift card, even if you're returning something worth $3. You get a $3 gift card.

15. So pay $180 to get a $200 card,
then use that to get a $220 card, and continue until you have a $2500 card.

4. If they set up the rules, and you aren't breaking them
it's not really a ripoff. Just clever shopping skills.

I love looking for deals. :bounce:

11. if we sold them, yes
10%

But my store doesn't carry anything in the way of actual firearms. The most we have is pellet guns and paintball guns.

14. Well, shucks...
I thought Wal*Mart sold guns...

I remember that old Jello Biafra statement that Wal*Mart wouldn't sell you records about committing suicide, but they'd sell you guns to do it.

Don't tell me Jello was stretching the truth!

16. well, i am in New York
and not upstate NY either, so maybe the handgun laws are more strict here.

But we're also not a Super Wal-Mart, which means we don't have a meat department or a auto shop or whatever else they put in those things. Maybe they have gun sections there?

17. Some Wal-Marts do
It depends on the area. The one by my house doesn't, but the one by my mom's does....30 minutes away.

20. While you're there
please try to start a union. Although, you'll want to have a back-up job for when they fire you for starting a union.

I don't believe half the people who work in my store could spell 'union', let alone help to start one.
