1. Just flew from Vienna to Brussels and a woman from Gambia tried to

get some luggage on board that was about 40 kilos over the limit.

2. Reminds me of the time a colleague was telling me why he

didn't get the promotion he was expecting in his diplomatic posting to Saudi Arabia:

He and his fellow foreign office pals had been invited to a special bedouin feast in the desert, held in a magnificent canopied tent under a starlit sky. It was a special 'getting to know you' dinner hosted by the local Sheikh as part of Saudi National Day.

They sat crosslegged on traditional woven rugs as dish after dish of local delicacies was set before them, some on sumptuous platters others in ornate bedu earthenware. Mindful that the menu might contain specialities such as sheep's eyeballs, they scrutinised what was on the menu and made judicious attempts to nibble on those dishes they could recognise.

Having been schooled beforehand in local dining protocol and etiquette - and knowing that the success of the evening would be influential on their career prospects - they were careful to pass along the table plates of certain foods - much as the ubiquitous bottle of port is passed to the left after dinner back home - as instructed....

Eventually, a bowl of what looked like breaded fried scampi was set in front of my colleague, who eagerly began to munch away with relish until he finished the whole lot.

Some time later, he noticed his host's party were eyeing him up and down strangely and pointedly talking among themselves as the empty bowl was taken away by boggle-eyed waiting staff.

It wasn't until the car journey back to the residence that a well-meaning charge d'affaires nudged him and said: "Pssstttt......About that bowl of lamb's penises you ate all by yourself.....you do know for next time, don't you, that you're only supposed to take two and then hand on the dish to the next person?????Apparently it's frightfully rude not to, and imples a massive slur on your host's manhood to eat the whole f---ing lot!"

...Pretty sure they were Saudi lamb, not Gambian male..........
