Who wrote this poem?
I think it goes:

A soldier of the Legion lay dying in Algiers
There was a lack of women's nursing, a dearth of women's tears

I can't remember the rest, but it was in Crane's "Open Boat" and I was wondering who wrote the poem, or where it comes from originally.

And the lyrics to "Bingen on the Rhine," including an audio file:

Is this a French song, and the "Legion" is the French Foreign Legion? And the solider might actually be German?
