I rarely ever describe my dreams to anyone because I know how yawn-producing they can be to other people. But this one was different, so I thought I'd post it here. I think DUers will like it.
There was to be a fight. In a huge arena. I'd never seen one so big. The fight was between two men, but it was way bigger than just them. It was way bigger, even, than politics. I never got the sense it was JUST Democrat vs. republican. It was like the guy we were rooting for represented all that is good and decent and strong in the world and the other guy---I never got a good sense of what he looked like. He was ill-defined, literally fuzze around the edges. He was the opposite of our guy, but he was still fierce, ferocious.
When I showed up to sit in the stands, I looked at everyone alraedy sitting there and they looked at me. We were all quiet, but (since this is a dream) we ALL knew everyone sitting there on our side was fully prepared to do anything and everything they could to help our guy win. We would jump into the fight at a moment's notice. Which, now that I am awake, doesn't sound like a very fair fight, but in the dream, that never occurred to me, and I knew those supporting the other side were prepared to do the same. We weren't just going to sit there and watch our guy, and everything he represented, lose.
We also knew it was a fight to the death. Only one would survive. And it HAD to be our guy. I looked over at the other bank of bleachers and the people there were already snarling and screaming, even though nothing had started yet. I was a bit taken aback by how many people there were over there, then I looked at the unbelieveably long line of people very quietly filing in to the arena to sit on our side. We outnumbered them around ten to one, easily. No one on our side spoke. We all knew what we had to do.
I woke up before the fight started. Our guy had just walked out into the arena. He was calm and quiet, and seemed to know exactly what had to be done. He didn't look at the other side, only ours. He glanced at us. That's it. Then looked at the door through which the other guy would come.
The door started to open in the far side of the arena and I woke up.
Now that I've typed that all out, it sounds kind of corny. But when I was dreaming it, it was so real. So sincere. I've never felt the feeling of being exactly on the same wavelength as so many other people.
