3. yes, it will take some getting used to
i used to work in optical (make glasses, dispense them).

do you have much astigmatism? that type of correction generally is harder to get used to.

but yeah, it definetely will take some getting used to.

sometimes it is better not to wear new glasses for the first time after you have already had a long day, maybe stick them on first thing in the morning.

4. The worst thing was trying to see above the glasses rim...
or out the side....it was distracting. Of course, I was about...10 I think.

I'm not a full timer, but sometimes it feels like it.

Why didn't you go for contacts? I have my own embarrassing reasons. :silly:

6. I've been wearing glasses for 20 years, and I am not used to them yet.
Just kidding. I only wear mine when I am reading. I have found that lighter frames or frame less glasses are a lot easier to deal with.

8. Old dog, new tricks
people our age have the hardest time adjusting to glasses, physically, mentally, and visually. its is easier if you started when you were younger, like snow skiing.

dont wear the time all the time at first, just when you need to see better

so Mr. Presbyope, did you get progressive lenses?( no line bifocals) You are a progressive Dem, right?

11. They can be used for great dramatic effect!
They can be brandished in one hand during passionate debates...removed with great deliberation (followed by weary eye-rubbing) to express how exhausted you are...

Glasses are great (says a 4 eyes since 2nd grade).

Don't just use them, enjoy them.

and a lot depends on the frame style you get. Usually it only takes me a few minutes to get used to a new prescription but now I have some high fashion frame-less types. It turns out that where the bows are screwed into the lens is now in my field of view--that totally bugged me for a couple of days. After a while though your eyes get used to where they can look. Are you having trouble just looking through them---or is the transition area (where the lenes end) what is throwing you off? If it's the first, well, that might take a bit longer.

However, not matter what you WILL get used to them :)

When I'm not wearing glasses my face feels naked--I don't know how you people do that! ;)

28. I've been a four eyes since the age of 10.
Edited on Fri Feb-25-05 05:43 PM by Bouncy Ball
I go back and forth from full time contacts to full time glasses. I'm doing glasses right now, because I need to order some more contacts.

Post a picture of you in your glasses! You know they make your IQ go up 10 points, right?

On edit, I'm still weirded out for about half a day when I switch from glasses to contacts or contacts to glasses if it's been a long time since I've worn either one full-time.

That's because with contacts you get the full field of vision, with glasses, not so much.

Personally I hate wearing glasses and I always have. Thanks for the reminder to order some contacts. I just feel like a big dork in glasses, I feel like they obscure my face and I'm sure some of it is residual feelings from being a four eyes in the early 80s.

29. A song for you from the Lovin' Spoonful
Four Eyes (John Sebastian)

Four eyes, what you gonna do now
Four eyes, and how much do you see now
How many fingers, ha ha ha

When your kids that see through plastic
with a harness of elastic
So the girls all think you´re icky
And the boys all think you´re queer
Then the hinges all get rusty
And the seventh pair gets busted
So you graduate to tortoise
Shell that makes you look severe

Four eyes, what you gonna do now
Four eyes, and how much do you see now
How many fingers, ha ha ha

When you´re so blind they call you Batman
You can´t even see a fat man
You can´t dig just where he´s at man
Without windows on your eyes
But the frames ain´t your decision
And they´re fitted with precision
And they magnify your eyes like they´re a pair of cherry pies

Four eyes, what you gonna do now
Four eyes, and how much do you see now
How many fingers, ha ha ha

Here´s a word to all you parents
Give a break to little Clarence
When he says the blackboard´s fadin´
And the world´s a fuzzy place
Mister up in middle classes
Let the baby choos his glasses
And please recall that after all he
wears them on his face

Four eyes, what you gonna do now
Four eyes, and how much do you see now
How many fingers, ha ha ha

34. Had to wear them since age 7.
At the time, wearing specs was a stigma. Other kids looked down upon you. So I rarely wore them except for school and television. Eventually, my vision grew so bad I was forced to wear them all the time. That's when I began getting chosen last for phys ed teams. Now I wear prescription ash trays. They say I should go bifocals. No way, mate.
