5. yes...the wicked witch...

Terrorized me throughout my childhood... I had such a vivid imagination that I would see her walking in my room at night...I thought she was under my bed at times so I was afraid to get out, thinking she'd grab me...so I was a prisoner in my bed...fun huh??

Tornadoes looked really scary too...

6. Dark Side of the Rainbow

Try watching the movie with the sound off and Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon on.

I believe you start Dark Side at the third roar of the MGM Lion.

If you do it right the music syncs up with the video. There's one point where the chimes and bells at the beginning of "Time" start ringing as the Wicked Witch appears riding her bicycle.

According to the web site I've linked to, the Great Gig in the Sky has many incidents:

* The tornado is shown in the background as the words 'I'm am not frightened of dying' are said

* The drums start right as the wind really picks up and blows the trees from their roots.

* The singer calms down right as Dorothy is knocked unconsious by the window

* 'Great Gig in the Sky' is still playing as the house flies in the tornado

I'm from Kansas, and I didn't see the movie until I was 28.

I saw "Return to Oz" when I was ~10, but I didn't understand any of it.

10. 1969: I saw the witch melt....

When she melted I was so scared I ran out of the room. This was the era when there was no VCR/DVD.. You had one chance per year to watch the movie on TV.
The flying monkeys came in a close second on the scary scale. I love that movie. I think it was more special when you had to wait a whole year to see it.

13. Nah, but "Return to Oz" gave me the creeps

Wizard of Oz had a few scary parts (the flying monkeys and whatnot), but the eighties movie Return to Oz was the one that really got me when I was little. From "the Wheelers", to Mombi's removable talking head I'm surprised I made it through that one as a three year old w/o some severe psychological scars!

You see, my mother looks A LOT like Margaret Hamilton and she would dress up like the Wicked Witch of the West for Halloween. My sister and I came to see our mother in the witch and it always made us cry when she died.
