ALMOST a car accident....and FUN from at Walmart...what a day!!!!!

So, this morning I nearly died, was going 50 through a yellow light, in the pouring rain, some guy coming from the opposite direction turns right in front of me, and stops...completely...I can't, its too slippery, so I have to veer off to the left and turn down that road, I turn on two wheels, almost run into a light pole...what ifs go through by head, oh my gosh!! I was awake today!!

Later today I was looking for sand at Walmart...poor guy I asked said that they didn't have any...so I said ok, and was ready to head out to Lowes...and then he made the mistake of saying to ME...its cause we arent allowed to have a Super Walmart...

So I say, oh, its ok, I dont support a Super Walmart anyways...

Thinking that would be the end of it, I start walking away...and he calls out at me... "Why, it would produce a ton of jobs"...

So, here I am, in Walmart, making an argument against Walmart to a Walmart employee...not my original plan when I was trying to buy samd...ugh!!

So I start, well, it will reduce property values because of all the businesses that go out of business because of Walmart...which had actually happened, Kmart, which was across the street and Kash N Karry had both gone out of business in the last year...

He agrees with me??? Weird!! But then says that it will create jobs...

Now, this is where I dont want to go, cause I'm arguing WITH a Walmart employee...I should have said that Walmart pays so little that tax payers have to subsidize their low wages with welfare payments, so that the people who work at Walmart can be at poverty level...but I dont want to go there...so instead I said that with Walmart, the money that is spent at Walmart, only 75 cents on the dollar goes back to the community, so we lose money from having Walmart around...and that with local businesses you actually get $1.25 back on every dollar because all the money goes back to the community and more...

Then he asys that Walmart is very generous and donated $250K to schools...ummm ok...I say that its not comparable to the money lost, and then say thank you for your help, I got to go get my sand...

At this point, I gotta end it, we are standing in the middle of Walmart (about 10 feet away from each other so we were pretty loud), people everywhere, all I want is sand...LOL...I wish we were outside or anywhere but Walmart, cause that was a conversation that needs to be had, just not there...


Heh heh...what a day!!

PS-I never get responses, so I'm just going to comment to myself that I think thats a crazy day, and then proceed to watch my post drop like a 1000 pound dumbbell...blah!

I do hope you found some sand - meh, I just remembered - you're in Florida, if I recall, that seems like the last state one would need to buy sand in. :D

I know, go to the beach tomorrow, and just hang out, you'll have a ton of sand when you get home :P

I teach science...and we are going to have a gem mine lab next week...so I got 50 pouns of gemstones...now I'm separating them into 150 1-gallon baggies and I am getting sand so that the kids have to dig for the gemstones...sift it through chicken wire thingie...

I think it will be an awesome lab...


The kids will get to keep the gemstones:)

going the speed limit isn't always appropriate. One is supposed to drive based on weather conditions. Rain, causing the roads to be wet and slippery would be a condition requiring extra time to stop, and decreased ability to stop, so speeds ought to be reduced to accomodate that.

Sounds like a fun science project though. Good for you heroine. Teachers are always my heroes/heroines :loveya:

This bozo makes about half of what he should, at a company that puts all the competition out of business, then raised its prices for its captive consumers, and keeps him at poverty level, and he's spouting their propaganda? Sorry about your near accident, sounds terrifying. I put the brakes on tonight to turn down my street, and almost slid right by.

Yes, I was freaked out, if there had been a car going straight when I turned left, I woulda be creamed in the car...its the closeest I've ever been to actually being in a car accident, in my LIFE!! Here in Florida, its been raining forever...havent seen the sun in days...

I know...I will speak out, but I didnt go in there to speak out...I was pretty surprised myself, but he was asking...interesting thing was that he agreed, but then tried to disagree...LOL, but hey...I'll take it:)

target says they donate x% to the local communities (i think it is 1%). but i found out that one of the ways they do that is to donate out of season merchandise to the local salvation army, instead of selling stuff at clearance. not sure if they then claim the wholesale or retail value, but they are mostly just saving themselves hassle.

they wanted to build 2, i think they got one. several alderman insisted that unless they paid a living wage, they did not want them. i think they did get the go ahead on the one that was going to be in a still bombed out (since the 60's) area of town.
