Me and John were working on a Hutterite colony.

It was so isolated we had to eat and sleep there. At our first meal there we sat in the middle row of three rows of tables in a huge hall. We sat with about 8 older men. From one door all the men parade in and sit at one row of tables,and the women do the same from the other door. The women's heads were covered in bonnets. They served our meal. Then 6 men walked to the head table,hung there heads and said a prayer in German. When the prayer was over everyone attacked there food. Me and John started eating and discussing the job (we were insulating two large buildings). Tink tink tink the forks were hitting the plates. The guy that said the prayer stands up everyone stops eating and he says a prayer. Meal over. We had hardly touched our food,we didn't know it was a race. We worked til midnight when an elder told us to shut off our machines,they had found a place for us to sleep. We went to bed tired and hungry. There was still 2 more days of this fun.

Most of the Hutterite colonies I have seen (in Montana) are fairly close to cities.

2. Saskatchewan.

Nearest town was Kerrobert,population of 300, no restaurant. All the hotel rooms were booked because of the oil boom. It was 40 miles away.

So wow, really in the middle of nowhere.

4. We did a job at another colony about month later.

We were dreading it. It turns out these guys are great. They get the younger fellas to help. Near the end of the job they bring out these big jugs of rhubarb wine and got us pissed. I never understood the difference between colonies.

5. I got pretty well hammered visiting

the Hoots out of Havre Montana on their home-made wine and beer.
