Music Lovers: What was your first favorite music store?
Edited on Sat Feb-26-05 02:03 PM by sundog
That obscure little place you found yourself spending waaaay too much time & money in.

There was (or is?) this place in DC's Dupont Circle called 12 Inch Dance Records. I think I found it when I was about 16.

It was like a hole in the wall over a Burger King or something. You had to walk up some steep narrow poorly lit stairway to get to it. But they had every imported & domestic dance track ever put on the planet.

I spent hours upon hours there & probably bought the owners a new set of living room furniture with the cash I put out.

How bout you.

5. The "Music Box" at 79th & Throop. We used to go there after school and
listen to 45's in little booths. ("No Dancing!")
I remember playing "Be Bop Alula"(sp?) and "Party Doll". Oh, to be young in the early days of rock n' roll - it was so exciting.

6. Odyssey Records
Huge record store on Las Vegas Blvd. between downtown and the "Strip". When I got my first job out of high school in 1986 I would go in there every payday and blow half (or more) of my check every single time. My love of progressive rock has its roots there, because I would buy out one or more bands' entire catalogues, then go home and listen to everything non-stop until after the sun came up Saturday morning.

By 1989 they were bought out by that corporate nightmare known as Warehouse Entertainment (which I actually made the mistake of working for, but not at that location). Last year, they closed their doors for good.

7. Vinyl Solution in Grand Rapids, Michigan
They were an alternative record store that came out when alternative music was coming up, like in 1988.

8. The Internet
Best Buy and FYE have killed all of the indie record shops and used CD shops in my area. Therefore, I have to resort to the net for my music needs.
