WHo can help with the manifesto or whatever it's called?

We want to have a group to discuss classic and breaking true crime cases?
Anything else?

I think we should steal one from another group! :D

Maybe we should say that we want to discuss current and older true crime cases. Maybe a caveat that on cases which aren't yet adjudicated, we presume the innocence of the accused?

On edit: can we add that we do not want people coming in to post "who cares?" type posts when we're discussing the crime du jour? Obviously we care, and there is nothing wrong with being interested in these things. I saw a lot of that when Scott Peterson was being tried. Someone would post something, and inevitably someone else would show up and say "Who cares?" I find that sort of thing pretty annoying.

in a forum specifically for TC (true crime).

I don't want to see that myself, since there are forums here about things I could not give a monkey's about but would never be rude enough to post in.

12. Here are a few outright plagiarisms lifted from the DU Groups:
1. The mission of the DU American History Group is to discuss and debate American history in the pursuit of enjoyment and knowledge for all DUers.

2. Although anyone is welcome to participate, the DU Atheists and Agnostics Group is a place where atheists and agnostics can engage in frank discussions about the effects of religion on politics, free of debate about the existence of a deity or deities. In this forum it is inappropriate to belittle those with religious beliefs or to engage in demeaning or hateful speech toward members of DU who may hold such beliefs. Those who do believe in a deity should be aware that the underlying assumption for discussions in this Group is that either "god" does not exist or that the existence of "god" is in doubt. If you are offended by such notions, you probably should not participate in this Group

3. The mission of the DU Classic Films Group is to discuss, evaluate, and increase awareness of these films, including the outstanding talent of actors, directors and the grand studios that produced them; their reflection of/impact on American culture; preservation efforts; and notices of new releases and TV broadcasts.

19. How is this?
Edited on Sat Feb-26-05 06:03 PM by XanaDUer
1. The mission of the DU True Crime Group is to discuss, evaluate, and debate national and international true crimes. The bulk of discussion will be on murder cases, solved and unsolved, new (BTK Killer) and "classic" cases ('Who was Jack the Ripper?').

2. Although anyone is welcome to participate, the DU True Crime group is a place where True Crime aficionados can engage in frank discussions and evaluations about true crime, free of debate about the importance of crime and sensational murder cases in the context of other current events. In this forum it is inappropriate to belittle those who are interested in true crimes or to engage in demeaning or hateful speech toward members of DU who may hold such an interest. If you are offended by such interests as True Crime, you probably should not participate in this Group.

3. The DU True Crime forum would also like to discuss books about true crime, TV shows about true crime, documentaries, and web sites, et al, about true crimes.

4. We will presume the innocence of any current suspect who has not yet been given a trial or verdict.

OKAY GUYS, ANYTHING TO ADD OR SUBTRACT?

25. Yeah I know what you mean.
When Peterson was being tried, someone would always interrupt the discussion by saying that it was a media distraction, if she wasn't white and pretty no one would care, how can you be interested in this when we're killing Iraqis, etc.

All valid points, but I am able to multi-task. I can care about all of the above, at the same time!

I officially move that we adopt your statement as written and submit it to the admins for their approval.

Anyone else want to second my motion?

3. In that thread, members must agree on a proposed mission statement for the DU Group. (now we have to do #3)

4. When enough members have signed on to join the group and have agreed on a proposed mission statement, one member must officially suggest the DU Group to a DU Administrator (Skinner, EarlG, or Elad), either by contacting them directly, or by posting in the Ask the Administrators Forum. Please be sure to include a link to the thread where members have discussed the proposed Group.

16. Boring, pedestrian mission statement idea:
The mission of the DU True Crime group is to discuss true crime, cold cases and unsolved murders.

I think we might need to add to it, but I can't think of anything else to say.

20. Good start! I came up with this - please add or subtract:
The DU True Crimes Group will discuss current and past true crime cases. We believe there is value in exploring these cases, and that much can be learned about the nature of crimes by studying those who commit them.

We will presume the innocence of any current suspect who has not yet been given a trial or verdict.

This is intended to be a positive place for members to
discuss these issues. If you don't believe these issues have any value, you probably should avoid posting here.

18. Yes
I guess discussing old classic cases (Zodiac, J the R, etc)

and breaking cases, (like BTK).

We could also discuss good and bad TC books.

I know there is a NF book forum, but this would specifically be for TC books, movies, etc.

4. Only members with a DU Donor star next to their username may post messages in the DU Groups. Non-donors and non-registered lurkers are permitted to read DU Groups, but they are blocked from posting in them.
