Poll question: If you could play like any of the below guitarist -- who would it be?
If you could choose to play like any of the below who would you choose? Right know I am listening to "Animals" so I choose Gilmour. What about you? (Yes, this is "old school" and not meaning "best", it just seems like it would be fun to play like these guys.)

I'd choose Mick Jones of the Clash with some Johnny Thunders and Andy Gill stirred in.

One of the saddest stories of all time. Died of lung disease at 23. I'd love to play like him.

Not to denigrate Django, Eddie Laing, and Lester Polfuss (Les Paul), but Charley put it together on the electric guitar.

He's not my favorite guitarist, nor is he the "best", but he's got a certain vibe that I'd like to be able to capture.

I'd rather be able to play like Tuck Andress or my pal Michael Kelsey.

11. Vince Gill or Albert Lee or David Hidalgo
Edited on Sat Feb-26-05 06:54 PM by TOJ
I like R&R better than R&B

Gill stole the show at the PBS "Guitarfest 04". After he was done, it shifted from R&R to R&B, to its detriment, IMO. I kept waiting for Albert Lee or Mark Knofler or David Hidalgo to appear, and was disappointed.

his set at Fest 04 was amazing. I wish with all that money he's made crooning that he'd go back to rocking like he did 15-20 years ago. He did a couple American Music Shop's with Albert Lee and they about set the fingerboards on fire.

23. so are chet's albums with jerry reed
when he wasn't making stoopid movies or recording "When you're hot you're hot", J. R. Hubbard was a helluva guitar player. Me & Chet is a classic, no longer available :-(

I remember late one night watching TV and catching Reed & Jim Stafford (!!) playing "Yakkety Axe" (aka the Benny Hill chase song) in unison on their electric guitars. Jaw-dropping.

24. Hey, Jerry was great in the Scooby Doo episodes!
Honestly, I have always had respect for him. I am not a great country fan, but Burton, Reed, Clark, and Lee all are stand outs. They are fun to listen too. I can not list a favorite guitar player -- my faves all have something -- to me it is soul/emotion. I can and have made a large list -- but there are so many people out there that can play their cooley's off. I wanted to put Bonnie Raite on the list, but no room. I would have also but Richards and Lindley on -- no room. The ones on put on the poll I have always jammed with in the car and I wanted to see if I was alone.

28. must hunt that down. I used to love it when Chet would be on
PHC, because he would play stuff you did not think he would play, like classical guitar.

I met him once, in an elevator. He was looking for something in the building I worked in and I directed him to the correct elevator tower, then just as the door closed on the elevator I realized I had just been talking to Chet Atkins.

31. I can't play, but my 14 YO son can play circles around everyone he knows
including his music director at school. Animals is a favorite of mine (saw that particular concert as a kid) and has influenced my son because he grew up hearing a lot of floyd. In the last few months he has turned to nailing vivaldi's four seasons and bach's brandenberg concertos just for the heck of it -- he's into sweeping now -- but he leans most towards progressive artists like Peter Lindgren (opeth) who himself is heavily influenced by santana and gilmoure and Alexi Alaiho (children of bodom)who is a classicly trained guitar virtuoso.
