Serious Question: Do you ever look at the threads in GD and think or know
they belong in the lounge and think the OP believes they are "too good" for us "lizards" - I see it happen several times a day with posters whose names I don't recognize....are we really the red-headed step child of DU?

when we post in GD they are surprised.

But, when I'm in GD or the Texas forum, I'm usually quite serious.
I'm only a big goof in here!

but the lounge has its own group and it can be intimidatign for outsiders. I usaly post in the SMW and im sure that some might be scared to post, but they are more then welcome to post when they want.

16. It's true, there's a big crowd here that knows each other
and so that can be a little intimidating, but I think that happens in every forum. I think people tend to post lounge-like posts in their 'home' forum because they know the people they are familiar with there will see it. I do most of my nattering in 2004 ER&D myself....

"are we really the red-headed step child of DU?"
no, i believe that onus belongs firmly to the 911 denizens. lounge is just a way to blow off steam, or be silly if you feel like it.

i haven't seen one productive (non-bashed) thread out of 911: some people bring up thoughtful, open questions to something that bothers them; and the "debunkers" take great relish in rightfully (or wrongfully) destroying the peoples' egos--i mean questions...

but in any case. the lounge is great. sometimes a little random, but great.

20. When I first found DU, I spent a lot of time reading GD and GD:P
And I was overjoyed to find people who shared my political views. (Though the way some made sweeping generalizations about Christians drove me a little nuts). Then I found the Lounge and thought "OMG! There are really smart funny people who think like me here! I never in a million years thought I would find such a large group of people who are so well read and articulate and totally random and goofy!!"

I haven't left since! :)

29. I always classified myself as serious, studious, etc..
and on the side of taking myself too seriously --- until I got to GD. Ha! I ran outta there as fast as I could and now after reading LBN whenever I login, I stay here almost exclusively, with the exception of a few Groups.

I never knew I was a goofball who much preferred the lighter side of life until DU. Honestly. Doesn't mean I don't hold very firmly to my very liberal beliefs, but hell, I'd rather be having a good time than duking it out over Gannon.

11. I think the Lounge is a good spot on DU.
I browse the political boards occasionally but don't post there often at all. I don't think people care about what I say and my opinion matches up with most everyone else's, so what's the point I say. That is why I like to debate on other boards. I come to DU when I want to be with like-minded people on a really active board.

34. The Lounge is just what I want-
general, fast moving discussion with occassional forays into left-wing politics through the fun polls and whatnot. If I need my dose of flaming liberal vitrol for the day I will look through the greatest threads and reinforce my liberal beliefs which are always threatened where I live.

I would say people here are just as motivated, but not as motivated about going on and on about the same old stuff. Don't get me wrong, I love DU, but sometimes the whole site can be a bit much.

62. I think you need to hook up with progmom who broadcasts a
jazz radio program and has other dealings in the jazz world - plus she is a way cool lady. But, me - I just stole my name from a Clash tune:

The police walked in for jimmy jazz
I said, he ain’t here, but he sure went past
Oh, you’re looking for jimmy jazz

Sattamassagana for jimmy dread
Cut off his ears and chop off his head
Police came looking for jimmy jazz

So if you’re gonna take a message ’cross this town
Maybe put it down somewhere over the other side
See it gets to jimmy jazz

Don’t you bother me, not anymore
I can’t take this tale, oh, no more
It’s all around, jimmy jazz

J-a-zee zee j-a-zed zed
J-a-zed zed jimmy jazz
And then it sucks, he said, suck that!
So go look all around, you can try your luck, brother
And see what you found
But I guarantee that it ain’t your day
Chop! chop!

52. Thank for the hint.
I see this as a place where we can disagree respectfully without being called liars or 'disruptor's' simply for not agreeing with what one individual thinks should be the collective party line. I do like the 'drama queen' characterization. The trick is to use it and not break the 'personal attack' rule. How about: "Calling me a liar is such a drama queen behavior. I know that's not what you mean." How's that?

The putting together of these things is good for me anyway.

I want to put together information to do a FAUX News Party and have people symbolically throw their TV's away. I've told FAUX off and even the Strib. It feels good.

It would have been nice to get a nibble, but maybe it will show up tomorrow or something. This place does really move at a fast clip.

58. No. I don't think so. I don't believe really
intelligent people are the ones that sit around pontificating and debating all day. I do think they are the most boring people however. In this day and age you absolutely HAVE to have a sense of humor or your not going to get through.
I can debate any and all things political with the best of them, any day of the week.. but right now I don't feel like it. I haven't felt like it in months.
But I keep my eye on GD and LBN, and whenever there is an action required that I feel will make a difference, like a letter to a Senator, I'm on it. Then I go back to lounge posts.

75. Maybe I have issues
but I feel more comfortable here than anywhere else on this board. I feel like I have an opinion and that I have the right to express it at the Lounge, whether anyone agrees with it or not. Sometimes I have not felt quite the same at GD.
And I prefer my politics and events to be digested with a little humor. I hate to get too dry with anything.
I have enough to worry about in my real-life world. I don't want to stress any further when I am trying to escape.

85. Thanks.
My bro has one on a board (some movie board). It is a pic of Mojo Jojo from the Powerpuff Girls with B* face in the middle and Boxer's face is in the middle of one of the Powerpuff girls, knocking the crap out of him.
I like his better.

95. Just ocurred to me you thought I was being sarcastic.
Well for once I wasn't. You may also have mixed me up with a poster with a similar name.

Anyhow, I hope you get it sorted out because I have no beef with you, but if you want to share a rib eye and a baked potato some time, that would be nice.

86. The Lounge is the place for culture.
It's the place to bounce. It's the room without walls. I spend some time in GD, sometimes I think, "Why'd I do that?" after some weighty discourse.

It's always bright here. And you can talk about jazz. (Not just Jimmy Jazz.)

stuff. Yikes, talk about a buzz kill: "Oh , I'm a saint and somebody disagreed with me...bo hoo...bla...bla...bla" Like watching Anne Coulter on acid.

100. The LOUNGE is DU's brain's right hemisphere, GENERAL is the left.
Or is it the other way around? In any event, we need both to thrive.
