62 million people voted for George W. Bush. We were told that 78% of those people were concerned about so-called "moral values" as a determinant of their votes. These are the same people that never cease in trashing Hollywood for putting out morally bankrupt movies and television. They want television programming to promote stable two parent households and the virtues of family life. They tell us that that these are the shows that will sell if only Hollywood will put them on, in lieu of yet another cop show or "reality show".
Well there is a great pro-family show on TV right now, "American Dreams", and I think its one of the best shows I have ever seen on television. There is a strong father figure, a two parent household, a religious family and the Pryor family is generally depicted as a close, supportive family network where everyone loves each other. Characters on the show like Roxanne (Vanessa Lengies) are shown to be more troubled and permissive because they do not have a strong family support network.
Anyway, here it is, "values voters"! Here's the kind of television programming you have been asking for! And yet, the viewership is down to 7 million and the network is readying the guillotine for the show. If just another 5 million of these "values voters" would watch the show, we would need not fear losing it.
