I just did my own laundry for the first time...

...since July 23rd. I'm marking my recovery by what household chores I can do. Is something wrong with me?

Anyway, on Monday I start back at my second job, which means I'll be working my full schedules at both jobs, also for the first time since July.

I still need a cane, but maybe that will help me get a seat on the train.

That's so cool, Rene! Household chores are part of normal day to day routine, so it makes sense that you'd measure it by that.

It was actually really hard to walk up the stairs with my laundry bag. I was thinking on the stairs, when I get up to the apartment I can post my great achievement in the Lounge.

How often do we think about hauling a load of laundry around as anything at all but a chore... never stopping to think about how fortunate we are that it is just a chore - and one we do while grousing, but that does not challenge us physically to do it (haul laundry, not grouse). So easy to take so many things forgranted.

And here you are... maneuvering that load with a struggle... thinking about what it signifies and that you want to share it!

We love you. Support you. And I am pretty sure I am not alone in saying that we also continue to learn from and be inspired by you. And that started LONG before your accident. Just is even more amplified these days.

who don't understand what I get off a group of people I have never, and most of whom I will never, meet.
This is the real promise of the internet to me... to connect people of similar interests and beliefs from anywhere.

It makes me feel like a dork. Especially because I'm trying to walk without a limp, and when I do a good job I'm afraid people are thinking, "What the hell is she carrying that cane for, there's nothing wrong with her?"

I actually saw a young person with a cane on the subway the other day and I wanted to talk to him, but he was too far ahead of me coming out of the train.

13. One doesn't realize how difficult

so many daily tasks are until one has to do them while on crutches, or a cane, or in a wheelchair. I was totally stymied by laundry the first time I had to do a wash while on crutches. I stood there looking at the laundry basket and the stairs, leaning on my crutches, and crying. Grocery shopping was nearly as bad - that was before the days of plastic grocery bags with handles.

Strength to you, Rene. Are you sure you're ready for both jobs? That's pretty sporty considering how badly you were hurt. I send all my best hopes for a speedy and complete recovery.

14. I'm doing desk duty mostly...

...not a lot of running around, errands, etc. I really feel the need to get back into it. I feel like the longer I wait, the harder it will be. I'm already afraid I don't remember how to use the donor software at the breast cancer org.

I've been taking the subway for almost 2 weeks, so I'm pretty sure I'm up for it.

that`s how i figured out how far along with my various medical problems..my wife would always say don`t do this and that, but i had to find out if i could do them. it seems your`re ready to take on the world again. really are new yorkers that nice?
