In February 1998 Cathay Pacific banned Liam Gallagher and Oasis for life over their drunken antics and abusive behaviour on a flight from Hong Kong to Australia. Passengers complained that the pop stars bombarded them with food and missiles.

I'm sure they are referring to toy missles if they are indeed talking about missles at all, but I've never heard of The Beatles being this prepared and carrying things on their person to throw at people.

4. Dude I fucking loooooooooove Oasis

one of my all time favorite bands. I've got every studio album, every b-side, almost every early unreleased track and demo, tons of live shows so I can honestly call myself a big fan of theirs. BUT STOP COMPARING THEM TO THE BEATLES!! Both are amazing bands but there is no comparison to the Beatles. What the Beatles did changed the face of music completely. Oasis on the other hand has just made some really fucking great music and to a lesser extent has helped shape British pop culture over the past decade.

Yes the guys in Oasis are assholes. But most good musicians are and should be. John Lennon was one of the biggest assholes around. It's a defining characteristic of a genius. And say what you will about Oasis but Noel Gallagher is a pop-music genius. He has written some of the catchiest songs on the past 25 years all by his lonesome.

Without The Beatles, it is highly unlikely there would have been an Oasis. (Or any of my faves for the last 30 years!)

They took the concept of making records and put virtually all the control in the hands of the artist. (They did miss the whole keeping the publishing rights, though.) Buddy Holly was the first to insist on producing and only doing his own material. The Beatles took that to a completely different level and basically ran with the ball making their records from THEIR vision and the things they heard in their head.

That was the springboard to LOTS of great music since. They are the sine qua non of rock/pop music.
