3. A performer thanking God is a boast disguised as humility.

On the one hand, it's supposed to be saying, it's not me that got me here, it's God.

On the other hand, it's saying that God takes a personal interest in you and your athletic/artistic performances and wants you to do better than other athletes/artists.
