Wow, this Oscar telecast was REALLY boring.

The Grammies were way better and more entertaining this year. Also, PLEASE give up the lame idea of presenting some awards in the aisle or in the balcony seats. People who win deserve the long walk to the stage and to receive their award ON STAGE. And having all nominees on stage when only one wins and the rest have to skulk off is disgraceful.

3. It's the time issue and the censorship issue.

They had to find a way to shorten the time, and that's what they came up with. They're not going to cut Clint Eastwood off because the winner of the editing Oscar took too long....

IMO, they shouldn't televise half the awards--which has apparently been bandied about, as the winner of...the editing award I think...emphasized that the sound/editing Oscars were creative and not technical awards (therefore having to be shown tonight).

I don't know how they could liven it up, they seem to be too concerned about moving it along timewise. And there's the good ole seven second delay...

and just coz Rock dissed the chimpboy doesn't mean he didn't suck. Sean Penn took exception to Rock's bad taste in dissing of some fellow actors too.

Robin Williams couldva done a better job.

It was the most boring awards show I've watched...cattle call aptly describes the event!

However, I'm glad that Jamie Foxx won best actor--he was great in 'Ray'...and hooray for my fav, Morgan Freeman who won for supporting-actor!

15. I couldn't believe it when I saw them

presenting awards in the damn aisle. You reach the pinnacle of your profession and win a prestigious award and then you don't get to go on stage to accept it? If I had won in one of those categories, I'd have blown past the stupid mike in the aisle, gone onstage, and graciously said "Thank you."

I thought they made some necessary changes to move the program along and keep it from lasting all night. I especially loved the fact that they didn't highlight each nominated best picture film throughout the night.

Why sit through everyone sliding through their row of seats, , acccepting congratuations, walking down the aisle, etc.

Why not have everybody up on stage? It gives the nominees their "moment in the sun".

8. I respectfully disagree.

Highlighting the nominated films is one of the important parts of the ceremony, much more so than who the makeup winner thanks or a long speech by the costume designer; I really missed it this year.

While I didn't think it was a bad idea to have all of the nominees in certain categories on stage during the naming of the nominees and the announcement of the winner (that way, they ALL get to be on stage, not just the winner and for most of these people it's the ONLY time they'll ever be on stage at the Oscars), it's a HORRIBLE idea to do some presentations in the aisles. ALL winners deserve to be on stage. It practically screamed "you're not important enough." PLEASE don't let them do that next year!

And they should really just show about half of the awards, as important as all of them are, most people really, frankly don't give a shit about a lot of them, such as makeup, costume design, art design, sound mixing, sound editing, etc.

Chris Rock was hilarious. The show clipped along at a great pace.

Beyonce's performances were sensational (I could have done without Antonio Bandaras singing in place of the Oscar winner -- I thought that was a little tacky).

I really liked the refreshing format of presenting different awards from around the beautiful theatre. It made the show far less formal and stuffy.

Change is good.

10. I hate awards shows...

They are a colossal waste of time and there are far too many of them that really give celebrities too many awards. Point in case tonight... the humanitarian Oscar went to someone who restores film.

These things are too much about Hollywood praising itself repeatedly (the SAG awards are the worst) and not caring what the people that pay to see the movies think.

14. This differs how from every previous year?

I once made the mistake of trying to watch the Oscars with a friend who adored the show.

Two hours in, I woke up to see her shaking me, a deeply annoyed expression on her face. "You were snoring!" she scolded.

I apologized, then said, "Hey, you were the one who suggested a night of Hagen Daaz and pajamas."

Needless to say, she didn't ask me over to do that again, though we did remain friends. Probably *because* she didn't make the same mistake twice.

The Times had an article today saying that Robin had been forbidden to do his song mocking Dr. Dobson (written by my dear Mark Shaiman)...but he seemed to do most of the material anyway! It was to have been a Baptist minister tune. Brave guy.

18. I thought the evening was great

AMPAS is trying everything under the sun to make the telecast more enjoyable. Younger hosts, shorter speeches, new approaches to directing- and every year people find some reason to complain about how boring it was.

Let's face it, until the Oscar Awards becomes a box-office popularity contest then there will always be someone who finds it boring. We are honoring the art of filmmaking, and I believe tonight's show was right on the money to convey its intended purpose.

Chris Rock was a bit abrasive , and I like him as a stand-up comedian, but I feel we all have gotten used to the same ol' Carson, Crystal, Goldberg, and Martin type of comedy that when a younger style of comedy is introduced, people are quick to object.

of the stuff you listed! I love the simplicity of the awards themselves, but I like to be entertained as well! The sets were horrible, two cardboard trains, two headlights, and some fog and snow for a song? I've seen better set work at high school productions!
