email it out, everyone has to send back by Saturday before. We get a posterboard and make a graph, fill in all the categories, each persons name, then fill in the blanks. As the awards are given, circle the winners and tally at the end. for a tie, we have 'time' as a tiebreaker. Everyone picks a time they think the Oscars will end, defined by host saying 'goodnight', and the closest wins of the tie-ees. If there is no tie, then time becomes another category, except it can't decide a winner that way. Five bucks to go in, winner take all. (we had four guests this year, three were unable to come, it's a low turnout this year :-(
We do all 24 categories to insure attendance to entire show! (time category also helps with this)
We also do Oscar Bingo, this year's prizes were bad movies with Oscar nominees in them, or directed by them... One of the squares had 'show goes over three hours', this also helps keep everyone on the couch thru the whole show.
Party favors: all the animated shows were represented in a Shrek gift bag, Potter glasses, spiderman tattoo's, Incredibles mask, etc... kiddie stuff, but it goes over well. We also had crowns for the girls and tiny plastic top hats for the boys. Gold clappers too, since we couldn't find little 'oscars' to give away. They were the hit of the party!
we love the oscars!
