Law Would Require Actual Movie Times To Be Posted
<snip>

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- Don't you just hate it when you get to a movie theater on time, only to sit through a bunch of previews and commercials?

So does Illinois state lawmaker Jack Franks.

He is proposing a law that would require theaters to list two starting times. One for trailers and commercials and the other for when the movie actually starts.

He said the real starting time is important information, especially for parents who have to arrange for baby sitters. Theater owners don't like idea of dual starting times, fearing people won't be in their seats for the trailers.

Franks admitted his issue isn't of the earth-shaking variety. He said he won't fall on his sword for it.

1. I think the commercials are bullshit.
Previews are okay, but car commercials, pepsi commercials, and that sorta thing just piss me off.

4. It could be much, MUCH worse, believe me.
I was in Berlin a few years ago with some friends, and I had a few free hours so we went to watch a movie (Moulon Rouge, as it turned out) in a movie theater at the Potsdamer Platz. So I sit down only to be bombarded by 45 minutes, yes, that's 45 minutes of commercials. About three in four were for either alcohol or tobacco products. And to make things EVEN worse, the lights went back on when the ads were over, and employees began going through the theater to sell . . . ICE CREAM! Fucking ice cream, after sitting though 45 minutes of ads not knowing when the fuck the movie would actually start! They should have been giving it away! Damn, even recounting this after a couple of years still pisses me off. :grr:

3. I've Sometimes Gone a Little Late
figuring that the trailers would run about ten minutes, but on some occasions they cut the opening part short and go straight to the movie. Missed part of The Emperor and the Assassin that way.

5. With ticket prices as high as they are who the hell wants to----
sit and watch commercials?

The actual start time of the feature is the one that should be in the newspaper.

6. That's why we show up late
unless it's a movie we think they will run out of seats for or we'll have to sit in a crappy area for.

If not, we show up late.
