3. Is Cleveland thinking of running again?
I love his no-nonsense, honest approach to government. Bryan is too much of a fundy, in my opinion, but I love his common man approach.

Looking forward a bit, who do you think will be our nominee in 19 ought 4?

19. Come on now.
All that would do is just double the votes for married men, and in the event an unmarried lass attempts to vote, it would be like marking ballots at random. I certainly don't think we need to go out on such a limb in such a close race.

21. Cleveland got lucky. He only won because Harrison's wife died.
If Harrison didn't have the misfortune of a sick wife, he would have been hitting the campaign trail 24-7.

Cleveland should give it a rest, he'll never beat McKinley, he's too old now.

a Filipino army to fight the Bolo insurgents, and then keep US troops on naval bases there for, say, 50 years. That would let us check any Japanese threats until the Filipinos are capable of self-rule.

They stand no chance against a White Man's army. I hear their eyesight is so poor they can't even aim a rifle properly.

Still, they could turn the inscrutable masses of China against our merchants and missionaries. The Dowager Empress isn't going to live forever you know.

42. I agree, but
the Filipinos are Asiatics as well, and we don't want to make our white elephant the crown jewel of the Japanese empire. If the Japanese and Chinese were to ally together with the Indo-Chinese, the Manchurians, and the Filipinos, we would have an irritating fight on our hands. They've already proven in the Philippines that, once captured, they become too barbaric to civilize properly. Such a war of races would clearly be a victory for Westerners, yes, but at what cost? Surely such an endeavour would yield us no more territory than our foray into the Philippines, but yet would cost us unknown amounts in lost trade and income.

The Republicans will control the White House for 20 years if this is allowed to happen! A Dictatorship will be upon us.

Many poor people can't pay off their debts/mortgages because they won't allow free coinage of silver. We must have it.
Although, I do have my doubts about Bryan. I've been hearing lately about this book On the Origin of Species by a British fellow called Darwin. It's basically saying that man evolved from apes, but when Bryan was asked about it, he seemed terribly intolerant to it. If this Darwin man is right, the party needs to embrace it, for science is the way forward.

Team him up with Edwards and we can't lose!

76. Is anyone as concerned by development of some rigid ballon technology...
by the Germans as I am? Have you heard of it? I believe they are calling it after von Zeppelin. I am also quite concerned with the rise of the organization referred to as "The Boxers." Why are Americans so complacent with the obvious signs of threat from overseas?

77. What is his stand on imperialist adventurism by British in the Transvaal
I hear they are making plans for starving and torturing good Dutch settlers and land-owners. I admit to being somewhat ignorant of fact with concern toward the current U.S. candidates and platforms.

By the way, all, I highly recommend the new Berliner Gramophone flat discs over the Edison and Columbia cylinder recordings. I believe they are the modern.
Previously the Sousa marches have been the most popular.
I myself do not care for military music. This Arthur Collins fellow is quite entertaining and I am hoping for more operatic recordings. When do think Caruso will make recordings?

What are those silly Wright brothers thinking? They are making fools of themselves. Man will never fly. What a ridiculous idea! Nothing can beat our railroad system!
