So, my son wants me to enter NIck at Nite's America's Funniest Mom contest

They've extended the deadline to this Thursday and he's been bugging me for weeks to do it, since I'm always cracking jokes and ad-libbing them as well. Never mind that I'd have to spend money to rent a camcorder and take the time to come up with a three-minute "presentation" all within the next couple of days. And never mind that I don't think I'm as funny as everyone else in my family seems to.

But, what the hell! The grand prize is 50 grand and your own sitcom development and my son, with the optimism of a teenager, seems to think I'd automatically win. Never mind the thousands of other tapes they'll like receive (ah, the naivety and eternal hope of youth, lol!) What the hell. Might be kind of fun, wish me luck!

a 3-minute presentation, though. Usually, when I ad-lib or crack jokes it's spontaneous and unplanned, and I don't actually think of it beforehand. I'll probably look like a beached whale on camera, too!

7. I'd seriously advise you to try all your material out on as many people

as possible. Ask friends, family, co-workers to give you advice. If you're not worried about plagirism, try some stuff out here.

I'd have time for all of that since I'll have to get in in the overnight mail by Wednesday night to make the deadline. I don't really care if I win or not (okay, that's a white lie, maybe I care just a teensy bit!), my son is the one who's all enthused by it.
