What do you do with family that won't let you study? |
|
College is so important to me and I have exactly two weeks to go before I get an F on my incompletes that I had to take when I got sick last month. I am in Culinary College and I have to go in and practice for my finals from last time and complete them and I also have to finish the classes that I have right now. How do you tell your family that you will do things with them when your classes end and you have your degree in your hand? I am so close to finishing my degree that I don't want to fail. I also need to keep up my GPA of 4.0 so that I can get a Scholarship to continue so that I can become a Teacher at the College after I try my hand at being a tour Chef. I don't know what to do.
Anyone ever had a situation where your family doesn't understand that you are an older student that needs to study and every minute counts.

1) You need a place with a locked door 2) You need to talk to them and make them understand the importance of your study time.

3. I also have a couple of friends who want me to do things with them |
|
They don't understand.
I live in a Studio with my Dad right now and I can't lock the door. It's so hard to tell him to get lost. He is old and I don't want to hurt his feelings.

10. Amen - the library is the place to be - bring a watch - 3 hrs per class. |
|
That's the only way I got through graduate school - just think of it like going to work - a full day in the library. Get there at 8 AM - study til lunch - 1/2 hr later - back in the chair unti 4:30. Sneak in some quiet snacks and take little mini-breaks every hour or so.

4. You might have to resort |
|
to going to the local library to study. Or any other place that's quiet and you feel comfortable. But since you live in close quarters, I recommend getting out of the house to study.

I know it's inconvenient to have to leave, but you have to find a new place to study. Good luck, corarose. I wish you success.

Do all of the above.
If your family still gives you grief about not spending enough time with them, find someone who can sympathize with you and support you. It will make it easier to deal with the psychological pressure.
Post to DU again. We'll cheer you on!

9. I have two old High School friends that show up at my door |
|
They don't understand when I tell them that I can't go out I am too busy right now. They come in to my apt. and ask me If I am trying to get rid of them and In a way I want to tell them to go home. I am not rude but I have to get my life in order. Being broke is not fun and I would love to be able to help out at the Shelter for abused women and kids. They need several people to cook for them and they don't pay but what you get out of it is far more better then being paid.
God Bless All I will take your advise.
