One loss does not prevent that (unless two or mre teams go unbeaten, like last year)....but I don't see anybody beating Oklahoma. Did you see how easy they scored on Texas?

Miami has the only shot at the Sooners, and it'll take an effort like OSU put on last year.

23. 19 game streak including NC with win over 'Canes was quite a feat
And OSU is not out of it, given all the losses today. But they would likely need the Miami/Va Tech winner to lose somewhere else.

The irony tonight was the cheapshot neck shove that knocked out the Badger QB. His backup threw a perfect TD pass to pull out the game.

I thought he was on top of the guy, and I didn't think he was pushing down.

Replays look much different than my initial perception.

Chris Gamble made sure they didn't complain about having to play the 2nd-stringer, though. Damn, I just can't be mad at Gamble....but I should be.

As for Gamble, that was only one play. OSU lost the whole game tonight. That was just the last big play that did us in. I mean, somebody fumbled a punt, too. Oh shit, never mind.

49. Miami wasted 4 or 5 plays trying to make Gamble bite
On the out and up in the Fiesta Bowl. And with an awesome talent like Andre Johnson, no less. It never came close. Gamble blanketed him after the first quarter.

No, you can't blame Gamble. That ring was as much his responsibility as anyone's.

And my 'Canes, BTW, can certainly play with Oklahoma. Man to man we still have more talent and speed than them, book it. And we simply do not allow many points, that's what many overlooked going into today. But OU's QB situation is far superior, and Miami can't get by with one offensive TD per game. That happened vs. West Virginia and today.

52. The question is....
Miami physical enough to beat Oklahoma. That's why they lost to OSU last year. When OSU matched up with thier speed, they didn't have anything to awnser with. OSU just physicaly man handled them all night. That's the only question I have about Miami.

56. Good point
Miami's interior OL is much more athletic this year, after a couple of players changed positions this offseason. Today was the first game they were healthy all year.

Last season we were stuck with Brett Romberg at center and Rash Ahouli (or whatever) at one guard. They were good college players but unathletic stiffs who were sure to flop against Patterson and the other OSU tackles. Not that I could get anyone in Miami to understand that before the game.

Oklahoma could certainly crowd the line and force Brock Berlin and Jarred Payton to beat them. That combo is such a dropoff from Dorsey and McGahee that I realistically don't think it will be a championship year.

Gone.

There has been little or no mention of it today on any of the sports shows I've been watching. Reynolds will be lucky if no charges are filed civil or criminal in Madison.

My wife and I had been discussing this and I said at least a one game suspension and public apology but really he should be off the team the rest of the year. She says the scholarship should be taken away too. I think I agree.

Gee should we throw away all of the Bear's accomplishments because he was appeasing bigots? That was probably worse than punching a kid in the throat in my opinion. What... does someone have to be an "evil Southerner" in your opinion or something to dislike extreme behavior in what's supposed to be an amateur sport?

Matter of fact, I can't figure out your train of thought here at all. What does where someone is from have to do with noticing a trend for a certain behavior at a certain university? That don't make no damn sense.

By the way, no, I'm no Bear Bryant fan. Saying Woody Hayes tossed his accomplishments out the window when he hit that kid in the throat is by no means promoting Bear Bryant.

Edited on Sun Oct-12-03 01:40 AM by AwsieDooger
Not like the 2000 election, but sometimes I briefly put them in the same category. (on edit: as a letdown, not inequity. I didn't have much problem with the pass interference call, other than how late it came)

Damn, it just felt like 34 in a row should have been worth at least 2 titles, not one.

Especially the bizarre scheduling masochism that cost the 'Canes a BCS title shot in 2000. Almost no one is aware of it, even the most avid college football fans.

Miami was scheduled to open home vs. East Carolina. Even a revenge game after blowing a 20 point halftime lead at EC in '99. But East Carolina asked out of the game in April, with a scheduling conflict. Miami obliged, even though there was no Division 1 opponent available as a replacement. The 'Canes settled for McNeese St, and got ZERO points on the BCS computer. As it turned out, even a ONE POINT home victory over East Carolina would have put Miami in the Orange Bowl title game vs. Oklahoma.

That was the year FSU advanced despite the 27-24 loss to Miami and identical records.
