On the limited tour I saw it at The Castro in SF. A perfect venue for a movie of this magnitude.

BTW any fans of Bruce Campbell - he excells his role as Ash in this film. He's always been funny but never got to show his range as an actor, which he did marvelously in this movie. He believably portrayed Elvis as infirmed and elderly, which sounds easy but watching this made me think it's one of those things that's deceptively easy.

We find the King (Bruce Campbell) as an elderly resident in an East Texas rest home, who switched identities with an Elvis impersonator years before his “death”, then missed his chance to switch back. Elvis teams up with Jack (Ossie Davis), a fellow nursing home resident who thinks that he is actually President John F. Kennedy, and the two valiant old codgers sally forth to battle an evil Egyptian entity who has chosen their long-term care facility as his happy hunting grounds…"

The trouble is that this is a B-movie that deserves A-movie release. They don't have a distributor so this tour of theatres that'll show this kind of movie is meant to drum up a groundswell that'll convince some corporation to take it. If none do it'll go straight to VHS and DVD, which'll be too damn bad for people who appreciate B+ cinema on big screens.

Ah well, I don't want to drum up interest for political reasons, but entertainment reasons. After I saw the movie I read reviews that said Bruce Campbell should be recommended for an academy award for his performance. I will agree. God I hate to use "pathos" anywhere anytime but he put pathos into an almost impossible role.

Not to sugarcoat it - the script was lacking and missed opportunities, and characters were sparse. It did carry the "not ready for 'A' movie" frustration. But! Bruce Campbell's performance, and Ossie Davis' work, made this a "B" movie with "A" deliverance.
