Just because it's 35 years old doesn't make it worn out.

Listening to it nonstop makes it worn out.

Anything upbeat and exciting with a cool mix of instruments. Only the late 60s can provide! The 70s, disco aside, were naff. Early 80s were cool but by 1985 changed its style. 90s were boring and the 2000's are as talentless as they come. Yawnola.

But the Doors are too damn overrated in my opinion. They're just a 60's Nirvana (also overrated).

Go with the classics. Zappa. Jefferson (Vehicle). More Zappa. Even more Zappa.

You might also look for compilations of 60s garage bands. There are more than a few. It's the best way to get that fuzzy guitars sound.

32. Lots of great rocksteady/ reggae from this time period....

Bob Marley ws working with Lee "Scratch" Perry before he was a star, and made some of the best music of his career in the late 60's. "Caution," "African Herbsman," etc. lotsa great tunes. Plus great records by The Viceroys, The Melodians, I-Roy (the birth of rap, circa 1969), Clancy Eccles, and others too numerous to mention.

Of course, James Brown was hitting his stride around 1968 with the release of the "Cold Sweat" single, and the "Live at the Apollo Vol. 2" album. He had two drummers in the late 60's, and Bootsy Collins was his bassist. AMAZING!

All sorts of other music, too. Flamin Groovies, Josefus, SRC, Frost, The Shaggs, Ornette Coleman, KAK, Can, The Deviants....consult "unknown Legends of Rock n Roll" by Richie Unterberger or "Rock and the Pop Narcotic" by Joe Carducci for more information...
