Join the Cubs Fans! We're mellow and civilized!
Must be an east coast thing, all that violence and strife... :scared:

I prefer the more laid back midwestern sensibilities of Cubs fans.

Well, unless you're from the southside of Chi-town, then maybe you'd feel more at home on the east coast. But that's just mean, being that the other Sox team is home for the postseason.

The Cubs are just ONE WIN away from the World Series. And they never had to assault an opposing player or employee of the opposing team's ballpark to get that far. ;-)

1. That's because the Cubs have never gotten that far before!
The Yankees-Red Sox rivalry is always going to be this way.

If it were Red Sox--Twins or Yankees-A's, it wouldn't happen.

Good luck, the national league series is alreayd sewn up for you.

5. sure they have!
In 1984, they were one win away from defeating the Padres in what was then a best-of-five NLCS. The Cubs won the first two, then lost the last three. (The LCS's didn't become best-of-seven until 1985).

It has been decades otherwise, lol. But The Cubs were there in the Series in 1945, and last won it in 1908. "Drought" is not even an adequate term for that! LOL.

Also, back in those days, there weren't playoffs. A team went straight from winning the league with the best record, to the World Series.

Quality over quantity I say!

8. It's my prerogative as a liberal
To always root for the underdogs! ;-)

Hey, sometimes I think too much is made of the White Sox-Cubs rivalry. There are actually (granted, a tiny minority) a few Chicagoans who love both teams because they love their hometown. :hi:

4. And Duh Mare sez
No air raid siren, like his father Richard I did back in 1959 when the White Sox won the pennant. Scared the bejesus out of me, I thought the Russians were about to nuke us.

Stop saying one more win... think it, but don't say it. WE gotta be very careful not to upset the baseball gods.

Holy Cow!!! How 'bout those Cubs!!!

edit: Holy crap! I'm in the 700 Club. It feels icky.

15. east coast: a state of mind more than a location!
I know I will catch flak for this, but Cincy is a Repub town, and their team was owned by a Nazi sympathizer and racist for many years. :o

*dodges flames from diehard Reds fans*

16. My northside husband is a 50 year die-hard Cub fan!
He is walking on cloud nine the last few days and keeps saying to no one in particular "these aren't my Cubs..."
He's going to try to get some tickets to the "you-know-whats" if "you know what" happens today but chances are slim to none he would be able to do so. Its a shame but its mainly the fat cats/corporate dudes that seem to get into the really big games.

17. Civilized??? 26th and Cal, here I come!
I'm going to Wrigleyville tonight and in all seriousness will probably have to be taken out of there in a squadrol.

But hey, how often does this kinda thing happen? The way I treat my body, this could be once in a lifetime.

18. Good vibes at Wrigley these days
Not always that way. Anyone remember Lee Elia?

snip:

They're really, really behind you around here...my f*ckin' ass. What the f*ck am I supposed to do, go out there and let my f*ckin' players get destroyed every day and be quiet about it? For the f*ckin' nickel-dime people who turn up? The motherf*ckers don't even work. That's why they're out at the f*ckin' game. They oughta go out and get a f*ckin' job and find out what it's like to go out and earn a f*ckin' living. Eighty-five percent of the f*ckin' world is working. The other fifteen percent come out here. A f*ckin' playground for the cocks*ckers. Rip them motherf*ckers. Rip them f*ckin' cocks*ckers like the f*ckin' players. We got guys bustin' their f*ckin' ass, and them f*ckin' people boo. And that's the Cubs? My f*ckin' ass. They talk about the great f*ckin' support the players get around here. I haven't see it this f*ckin' year. Everybody associated with this organization have been winners their whole f*ckin' life. Everybody. And the credit is not given in that respect.

19. Gonna be a lot of Cubs-Marlins playoffs in the next decade
Both teams have great young pitching.

Cubs have Dusty.

Marlins have I-Rod to groom the young pitchers.

People will be talking about the Cubs and Marlins in a decade like they do the Braves now. Completely sick of seeing them dominating the playoffs.

21. Umm.
In general, attending athletic events in the midwest is more congenial than attending such events on the east coast. However, let's not pretend that there aren't a few bad eggs in the bunch just about everywhere.

Anyone who has attended a Bears-Packers game knows how ugly it can get in the midwest.

Go Cubs!
