Enjoy the fall colors — Pictures inside
I went riding today in the Indiana Dunes area. It was a gorgeous day and I took my camera with me. These are a few of my favorite shots. I thought people who live in areas of the country where the leaves don't change color would especially enjoy them.

1. Gorgeous photos!
Autumn is what I miss most about Upstate NY. Changing trees, crisp weather, apples, apple cider, cinnamon donuts, hot air baloons, festivals, hay rides and corn mazes.

Sigh, DC sucks sometimes. Thanks for the reminder of fall

14. Thank you!!!
Nature photography is one of my hobbies.

If you're interested, you can see more here:

You can navigate through the albums at the top. The butterflies and Sedona are my two favorites.

8. Milkweed!
There used to be fields and fields of them where I grew up. All plowed over for new developments. Haven't seen milkweed in years.

But it's good to know that I wasn't wrong. I will be showing my children these pictures tomorrow. We'll add another bug to our collection. Thanks.

15. Isn't it cool!
I had to resist the urge to open all of the pods. LOL!

I remember a crafter who used to take the pods, empty them and spraypaint them gold. She would then put scenes inside them, similar to fancy decorated eggs.

10. Great pictures!
My children and I like to do identification of all kinds of bugs, trees, animals, etc. So I looked this one up and I think it's the milkweed bug. Check out this site for more info: http://www.ivyhall.district96.k12.il.us/4th/kkhp/1insects/milkweed.html

16. I knew someone here would have an answer.
Thank you for the link. See my post #14 for my homepage with nature photos. Perhaps your children would enjoy identifying the butterflies. There's more trees and flowers in there as well.

5. At the end of the day
I headed to the beach to catch the tail end of the sunset. You can see Chicago in the distance. In an ironic twist, the belching steel mills along the Lake Michigan shore produces the most incredible sunsets.

17. I shot these on
a Sony Cyber-shot P72 (3.2 megapixels). You can see it in action in D.C.! :-)

I have a Canon G3 at work, which I like better. Since I take it to a lot of protests, I was a little leery of spending that much just in case something were to happen.

I can't wait to see it and the pics that you're going to take.

The Cannon is far far superior to the sony you're right, but its to expensive to risk in case you take a picture of the wrong thing for the police

We have a color change down here in Louisiana... Green or brown.
I really do love the colors... we took a trip down east a few years ago just in time for the change. Awesome vacation.
Thanks for the photos... you made my evening.

30. It was beautiful.
I brought my hiking boots and a change of clothes and was planning to do a little trekking but I simply ran out of time. If next weekend is nice, I'm definitely going back.

Are you from this area, slappypan?

33. Let's see...the snow...the last time I saw real snow was...
1985 or so. :D

I've seen flurries a couple of times since then, but nothing that stuck. Ice and sleet a couple of times a year, but no snow.

I'd love to come for a visit. It's been a year since my last visit already. :-(

34. Thanks for the great pictures
We're still a few weeks away from the peak colors in central Texas. Of course, peak colors here are much more subtle than they are up north.

But it's still more than I got than back when I lived in Hawaii.

:-)

37. Indiana looks beautiful
Never been there, but I'm impressed! Missouri is looking wonderful right now too. Our colors tend to be a little more muted, and from a distance, the trees resemble some kind of French Renaissance tapestry--gold, burgandy, muted greens and yellows. The Sumacs turn red, and imported maples orange, but the native trees are subtle beyond compare.
