Anyone have some good apple crisp recipes?
Ok, fall is here in MN and the apple trees on the farm have a bumper crop. My dad is practically throwing bags of apples in my car every time I go home to visit. My grandma used to make wonderful apple crisp when I was a kid, but the recipe was lost with her passing. Anyone have some good apple crisp recipes they'd care to share, or other good recipes using apples? Thanks.

1. My recipe
Edited on Mon Oct-13-03 12:06 AM by Lydia Leftcoast
Very vague, no exact amounts. I learned it by watching my grandmother and adding my own improvisations.

Grease a baking pan (This is very important, or you will never get the pan clean.)

Filling:

Apple slices (enough to fill the pan)
Apple pie spices: (cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger--sprinkle generously)
Now for Lydia's secret ingredients:
molasses and sour cream
Dribble the molasses over the apples, and put in enough sour cream to make the apples glisten.
(The standard recipe calls for brown sugar. My variant is still plenty sweet, but not excessively sweet.)

Crust:

Equal amounts of flour and sugar with LOTS of butter, enough to cover the apples.

Bake at 375 in a preheated oven for 30 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the apple mixture is bubbling.

BTW, Nick, do you know about the DU gathering being announced in the Meeting Room?
