Poll question: Which Parent Do (Did) You Like Better?
Edited on Mon Oct-13-03 12:52 PM by Magic Rat
Mommy or Daddy?

Did mommy verbally abuse you?

Did daddy physically abuse you?

Were they both saints?

Or did they play good-cop, bad-cop with you?

(oh, I forgot to mention that both of my parents are saints, although my father does have some odd quirks to his personality that would throw him into little fits of rage that would last about five minutes before he'd come up and apologise to me and tell me he loved me).

My dad was a psychology major in college and I have no doubt that he knew how to push all the right buttons with his children (me and my sister).

1. I love my mom, but we don't really get along. I ADORED my dad.

2. it's not about love
It's who you liked better.

Just like when parents say "I love you both equally," but on the inside their thinking 'yeah, but I like your sister a lot more.'

6. Exactly the same with me
My father was wonderful...I could tell him anything and he would try to understand and not be judgemental. Even better,he always had season tickets to Red Sox games:) I miss him every day, even after all these years.

3. Definately my mom
My father was pretty clueless as to what went on in his own household. Plus he's the sort that did not appreciate nor want physical affection. Couldn't bond with the man since he kept everybody at arms length. Intrestingly enough he is a totally different person with his grandkids.

4. My mom
She's been dead for decades so she gets a pass on any bad memories. My dad, with his slavish devotion to all things Drudge, couldn't compete with her if the situation were different.

5. Neither, at this point in time
When I was a kid, it was mommy, although now I recognize her as a codependent control freak who would have cried if I loved daddy as much as I did her, not to mention what would have happened if I loved him more.
Dad may have drunk too much back then, but when mom put me on a diet at age 8, he always hid a box of Ding-Dongs in his closet for me. Mom did everything she could to lead us to the conclusion that she loved us more than he did.

7. Gawd, horrible choice
Let's see - do we pick the father who contributed genetic material and then disappeared, never contributing a dime and never admitting I was his child until I grew up with his face? Or do we pick the mother who reared me in an atmosphere of neglect, physical, emotional, and verbal abuse (not to mention drug abuse), and married a man who raped me?

Which parent do I like better? The imaginary ones.
