For those that remember the 60's
I just got Peter, Paul & Mary's live from 1964. As a little kid we used to play the hell of this record and playing this CD has brought such amazing memories for me. Right now I'm listening to "The Time's They Are A-Changin" and these words are so fitting for these times now. I really recomend everyone on DU to thinkg about these words and take with it the message of this song. We need to UNITE and fight and for those of us in California, don't let this bullshit recall get us down.

We are the voice, we are the power! We can take control of the election in 2004 and that wortheless asshole out of office!

Come gather 'round people where ever you roam!
And admit the waters around have grown......

If your time to you to you is worth saving
Then you better start swiming or you'll sink like a stone

Keep up the fight, my friends!!

Love

RKM

1. wow . . . I've owned that album forever . . .
still have the lp, but must admit I haven't listened to it lately . . . call me nuts, but my favorite cut was always "Jesus Met a Woman" . . . always amazed me that three white folks could evoke that kind of feeling from a spiritual . . . the whole album's great, though, and I fully intend to dig it out for a listen real soon . . . thanks for the reminder . . . :)

17. they did a great job with that song

but if you really want to hear a white guy sing spiritual listen to Dylan's first LP. He was barely 21 and sounds 80 years old. Some of the best vocals ever recorded are on that album. Absolutely amazing.

10. I had the single for that-- listened to it all the time
The song was featured on Captain Kangaroo once. In the Kangaroo version, Little Jackie Paper grew up but was replaced by another boy, and Puff was happy again.

5. Classic tunes: "500 Miles," "If I Had a Hammer"...
"Times They Are A-Changing." Time to put on the cardigan sweater and head for the hootenanny!

The Byrds covered Dylan's "Times They Are A-Changing" on their second album (1965), and I wore that record absolutely *smooth*.

Go PP&M! :toast:

8. That was our "family" record
Mom played it all the time. And even though everybody in the family has different musical tastes, we all own that one.

It's like comfort food. :)

12. "Wasn't It a Bit Like Now" by the Association
Edited on Tue Oct-14-03 10:28 AM by havocmom
was a fun song. "...hey momma, hey dad, are all the memories really gone? Gone of the best darn times I bet ya ever had.
Instead of groovey it's wow and 'jeepers' is wild.
Just doesn't seem that different now.
The whys are the same, it's just a question of how.
It just doesn't seem that different now. ..."

Any Pete Seger fans out there in DU land? For you kiddies, try and find old Smothers Brothers clips, it'll give you a feel for the era and putting your views out there.

Any coffee house types out there? Chad Mitchell Trio? Limeliters?

Gadzooks, I'm old, but as Seger said (Bob this time): Welcome back baby, rock and roll never forgets..."

edit: correction on lyrics, havocmom is old and feeble in the memory

Were on tv a couple nights ago. Can't remember what show. They were still quite funny. Tommy still looks like a kid.

14. Saw a documentry about the Smothers Brothers Show not long ago
Man o man, do we need cajones like that on TV again or what?

And Gilda, the flower child... "I wanna greet you ladies like I always do: 'Hi' ...."

George Carlin got some exposure on that show too, didn't he? Very cutting edge. TV programming has diffenately devolved since then, but then we knew that when the brass finally took the Brothers off the air due to WH pressure.

15. I used to sign in coffee houses
Minor stuff locally in college.

I love the old folkie groups. THe Weavers, Brothers Four, and like you mentioned, the Limeliters and Chad Mitchell Trio. I miss that music. I do have some MP3s here though.

18. Chad Mitchell
were my favs. Some of the first songs I learned to play came from them. I only learned years later they were written by Paxton, Ochs, Hardin, Silverstein or were celtic trads. Gawd, we are old, ain't we?

Fun fact: Roger McQuinn played banjo for Chad Mitchell Trio :)
