For those that remember the 60's

I just got Peter, Paul & Mary's live from 1964. As a little kid we used to play the hell of this record and playing this CD has brought such amazing memories for me. Right now I'm listening to "The Time's They Are A-Changin" and these words are so fitting for these times now. I really recomend everyone on DU to thinkg about these words and take with it the message of this song. We need to UNITE and fight and for those of us in California, don't let this bullshit recall get us down.

We are the voice, we are the power! We can take control of the election in 2004 and that wortheless asshole out of office!

1. wow . . . I've owned that album forever . . .

still have the lp, but must admit I haven't listened to it lately . . . call me nuts, but my favorite cut was always "Jesus Met a Woman" . . . always amazed me that three white folks could evoke that kind of feeling from a spiritual . . . the whole album's great, though, and I fully intend to dig it out for a listen real soon . . . thanks for the reminder . . . :)

but if you really want to hear a white guy sing spiritual listen to Dylan's first LP. He was barely 21 and sounds 80 years old. Some of the best vocals ever recorded are on that album. Absolutely amazing.

The song was featured on Captain Kangaroo once. In the Kangaroo version, Little Jackie Paper grew up but was replaced by another boy, and Puff was happy again.

The Byrds covered Dylan's "Times They Are A-Changing" on their second album (1965), and I wore that record absolutely *smooth*.

13. Smothers Brothers

Were on tv a couple nights ago. Can't remember what show. They were still quite funny. Tommy still looks like a kid.

George Carlin got some exposure on that show too, didn't he? Very cutting edge. TV programming has diffenately devolved since then, but then we knew that when the brass finally took the Brothers off the air due to WH pressure.

I love the old folkie groups. THe Weavers, Brothers Four, and like you mentioned, the Limeliters and Chad Mitchell Trio. I miss that music. I do have some MP3s here though.

18. Chad Mitchell

were my favs. Some of the first songs I learned to play came from them. I only learned years later they were written by Paxton, Ochs, Hardin, Silverstein or were celtic trads. Gawd, we are old, ain't we?

Fun fact: Roger McQuinn played banjo for Chad Mitchell Trio :)
