Ohio State suspends Reynolds for one game.
http://ohiostatebuckeyes.ocsn.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/101303aaa.html

COLUMBUS, Ohio: Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel has suspended senior linebacker Robert Reynolds for one game following Reynolds' act of unsportsmanlike conduct in last week's Wisconsin game.

Reynolds, a second-year starter at outside linebacker for the eighth-ranked Buckeyes, will sit out this Saturday's Homecoming game against No. 9 Iowa.

"Robert has apologized and is sincerely sorry for his actions last week," said Tressel. "I want to emphasize that I think this is an isolated incident and completely out of character for Robert Reynolds.

I wish it were longer, but its better than nothing. The article goes on to say that Alvarez was informed of the decision. I guess if it's okay with him and Sorgi, then it's okay with me. If it IS okay with them, that is.

Tressel says the incident was out of character for Reynolds, and I have to trust him on that, as I don't know him. Tressel is in a better position to punish him than I, and I tend to trust his judgement.

The suspension will knock Reynolds out of the homecoming game, against the number nine team in the country, so it's not nothing, I guess.

One game, though . . .

Seems too little to me.

I'm torn here, if you couldn't tell. I don't know if this punishment is enough or what.

Its the right thing. First offense and no proirs. I will bet 100 bucks he'll never do it again. He seems very remorseful. The plays over. The games over. Sorgi will be 100% by Saturday. I hate to use the term "kid" but when they are young like this, its best these kids learn these lessons now.

you guys will beat Iowa with one arm tied behind your back. Badgers will have their hands full with Purdue. and hey where did Mich. State come from?

on Edit: spelling. And to add: Sorgi expected to play Sat. also, MSU hasnt played anyone tough yet.

If the Badgers win At Minn.....OH MY! Lots of games yet to play.....

2. Yeah, I agree
I don't think there is a pattern of behavior that would justify more severe punishment.

I am glad that maybe Wisconsin might have hope in subsequent years in the QB position with Schabert - he looked pretty good (though how much of that is just pure adrenaline).

You've been really cool about this. And you're probably right about the one game.

It's just that as a Buckeye fan and alum, it really really pissed me off when I saw it. I'm still upset about seeing one of the good guys doing that. I really think the reason I wasn't particularly upset by the loss was that play.

I wonder if the suspension would've been longer if OSU had won.

As for MSU: I don't know where they came from. I wrote them off when LA Tech or whoever beat them. Then they go and win the rest so far. Of course, their SOS is 65th right now using the BCS formula. It's projected to jump to 15th by the end of the season, so we'll see about MSU.

On edit: I meant good luck with Minnesota.

6. Only Iowa can beat Iowa...
If we're firing on all cylinders (i.e. not turning the ball over and committing penalties), I think we'll give OSU a tough time. Just ask Michigan. (conversely, c.f. Michigan State for total Iowa self-destruction)

4. I've never seen anything like it
I think that Sorgi has a case if he filed for assault (though I am sure he won't.)

After the game, in the press conference, they asked Tressel about it, and he said, "oh, you mean that play where he (Sorgi) got up and ran some more yards? I don't know anything about it."

Then we hear that the player apologized for the incident after the game (after the press conference, too? Wouldn't a coach normally talk to the team right after the game?)

Then, we watched the Buckeye highlight show the next day, and they did not mention the incident once.

If that gets by with a one-game suspension, well, it's typical Buckeye luck.

Predictions: Minnesota beats Wisconsin
Ohio State wins

BTW, Ohio Dem, I'm really heartened by your sportsmanlike attitude. Good for you! I'll pass it on to my Wolverine buddies and Go Blue.

7. I think it's the right punishment
It was the wrong thing to do, and the punishment is fair, especially with the apology from Reynolds.

Trust me, Tressell isn't going to put up with any more crap from him. The kid will walk a straight line the rest of his career at OSU.

Oh, and one game...same punishment Marlon Jackson of Michigan got for hitting a guy over the head with a bottle in a fight this year...and we're still waiting for that apology from Marlon.
