How many "Old DU'ers" are left here? I just sent Skinner my Annual $$'s

and as I hit "Submit" I started to wonder who is left, here? I lurked from April 2001 and then signed up in November 2001. So, I guess I'm here for 2 1/2 years?

I wish someone would do a "Blind Poll" about this. I have a sneaking suspicion that we have many "Old Timers" who have been "Tombstoned" or who have gotten tired of their "Posting Name" or who have just wanted to assume a different Persona than what they had..or whatever and they are still here with us under a new posting name. But don't "fess up!"

If I did a poll you could stay anonymous......Maybe someone will do a poll for me? Please??

Until then, I wonder if any "2000 to Now" DU'ers could just say a "Hello to Me?"

63. Joined the day skinner and earl opened the doors

on that awful day Bush* lied once again swearing he'd uphold the Constitution. Back then there were no rules, no moderators (except for two seldom posted forums ('Dirt' which was kallie and 'Guns' which was Bills) and non-disruptive conservatives were allowed to post. We were really a hurting bunch of broken hearts who knew the next four years would be bad, but in retrospect, I don't think we thought it would be this bad and bad in so many ways, shapes and forms. DU has had a profound impact upon my life. Much respect to DU and everyone here.

24. An example of how I view time...I needed to get my marriage certificate

and thought I was married in a certain month...turns out I was married two months earlier than I thought. I thought I held out longer than that??? I mean we have been divorced for over 10 years, but MOST women remember their wedding day??? I could care less. I am bad on birthdays also...In fact ask me what time it is anytime during the day and I bet I could not guess within a two hour span? I do not own a watch and would not wear one if I did. The only way I know what time it is if I look down at the bottom corner of my computer and most of the time that is off by anywhere between 3/4 of an hour and 15 mins...so WHO CARES what time it is?

a "suspect" Newbie, because you all had just been through a big Freep Attack and all were "on guard."

DU was the only "Message Board" whatever I had been on. I only bought my first computer in '96 and I don't to this day know code and had to be taught that hitting "Enter" solves alot of problems! LOL's Without the Early Compaq Tech Help....I would have given up long ago.

But, I remember you and when DU only had about Six posts that stayed up for days...for discussion.

And got on line for the first time. Was avid for a year and was transferred to NYC after the Iraq thing. Can only log on when off-duty now and at home or travelling on days-off. I think I probably qualify as at least a moderately 'old-timer.' My 'thank you for registering' e-mail was sent to me sometime in June 2001, though I think the last drive crash I had ate it.

My route to DU was somewhat circuitous -- I saw one of Will Pitt's essays on a now-defunct website I found from a link on either Bushwatch or Daily Howler. I liked it well enough I wanted to see if there was anything else of his published on the 'net, so I Googled Will's name and something from DU came up, or I found a link to DU on a page that had another of Will's essays, I can't remember now. And once I figured out what the place was about, I spent a week or two just reading LBN and GD posts.

That was the spring of 2001; I lurked for a while, registered and continued to lurk, though obviously I post sometimes. It was a long time before I discovered the Lounge, and I admit if anybody checked it out, they'd probably see most of my posts are there.

There's some fine writing here, and I love to read -- that's why I'm really here. I'd much rather read things written by people who believe many of the same things I do. Here, I know I have a more than even chance of finding them.

I signed up on the very first day and I dont think I've missed more than a day or two at a time since then.
I was watching the inauguration parade :puke: and getting very depressed. At the time I was still with my ex who is a dyed in the wool republican, and felt very alone in my anger and fear for our beloved America.
Then I saw the DU banner in the crowd. It was almost like a lighthouse shining from the shore!
I registered immediately and began the most enlightening journey I've ever taken.
Thanks to ALL DUers, new and old, and most especially to Skinner and EarlG. I honestly dont know what state of mind I would be in today if not for DU.

in late '00 or early '01 and became a "card carrying" DUer in spring '02. I still lurk more than I contribute; however, this is my "safe" place, away from the roar of ignorance that surrounds me in NW Illinois. I have learned so much from all of you. Then I stumbled accross DU, and it felt like a great weight had been lifted off my shoulders, and I had fallen into somewhere I had only dreamed of finding someday.
