Poll question: Hookin' up on DU — What are your thoughts?

Just wondering how many people here have made a connection, especially seeing as how hot and heavy the Lounge threads get sometimes.

Remember, this poll is anonymous, so be honest. Please don't kiss and tell — not asking anyone to "out" any of their fellow DUers, just curious as to how far things have gone around here.

1. I'm happily married, but if I'd found DU first . . .

2. Speaking as a never-married 38-year-old

single parent who lives in an area where the only single men appear to be freepers, RW wingnuts, or fundie nutballs, I think it would be kinda neat to have some kind of singles section on DU. I know there are a lot of other single DUers who'd appreciate that as well, since it's hard to meet like-minded singles in a lot of areas throughout the country, especially in repuke strongholds.

12. Why does there need to be a special section?

Couldn't you just PM someone who interests you and see where it leads?

14. It's often really hard to know who's single,

and who's involved, and who's gay, etc., etc. Besides, if you're shy, or unsure of how someone will react to a PM, or things like that, it would just make it much easier.

Through their postings, I'm pretty sure you have an idea about who's involved, who's gay, ages, professions, etc.

And just like any other social situation, a nice hello, a smile, a short friendly note goes a long way. How would you expect them to react to a PM? I don't think anyone would be mean or rude. Maybe you'll get a response, maybe you'll start an ongoing conversation, maybe you'll be ignored. Won't know until you try.

Probably wouldn't be prudent to start out by saying, "I like your posts and want to jump your bones." Although, around here, who knows. ;-)

Man, when I think of myself even two years ago, but especially something like four years ago (when I was just turning 16,) I'm so different in some ways, even as I'm the same in many others.

I'm sure it's the same for a lot of people, but nobody sits around and analyzes the changes in other people just for fun.

but if I wasn't, I'd be interested. I live in the upstate of SC. It's one of the most conservative areas in the country, and back when I was dating it was either some nutty fundie chick, or someone who's totally nonpolitical.

I choose the second option. My wife votes Democratic, but she's not very interested in what goes on in the world of politics. She relies on me for most of her information. I Wouldn't trade her for all the hot progressive babes in the world though :loveya:
