6. I don't know much about Collier

I live in Palm Beach County. I have relatives who live in Lee County. Naples to be more specific. I'll have to ask them what Collier is like, as they live pretty close.

Politically, I'm certain Collier is pretty conservative. As are most counties besides Dade, Broward, and PB.

That's why I moved to Georgia. At least you would be able to communicate better because more people speak English in Collier than in Dade, which is predominately Spanish.

Miami might not have Cracker Barrel yet.

Could be a deciding factor.

Also there are alligators galore along (fittingly) Alligator Alley from Miami to Naples. Yesterday you asked about alligators. During daytime it's possible to stop beside the road and observe dozens of lounging alligators not far from Alligator Alley, on the other side of a flimsy fence.

Last year at this time you were promoting KKT in Maryland, jiacinto. I'm not sure how that transitioned into all these absorbing topics of late, but I read every one :)

11. Anywhere you move will have good and bad

You take everything you are and have (or do not have) with you..

Since you JUST moved, why not try to get the feel for the place before you move again?? Do some weekend trips in the area for a few more months and then decide after you have seen lots of places..

It sounds like you are sorely in need of some friends.. Why not join a few clubs, or a local theatre group? Or a social club.. If you made some friends you would not be so unhappy..

It's hard, I know, but sometimes you just have to put yourself out there..

We lived in 5 states in 4 years, so I know what I am talking about.. It's very lonely when you first get somewhere, but remember that no one is going to knock on your door and introduce themselves as your new best friend..

You should at least wait until after the first of the year..

How about a weekend cruise to Bimini.. They have singles weekend cruises and they are a blast .. Cheap too :)

12. Yes, have you even explored Miami yet, jiacinto?

My gosh, take a drive thru Coral Gables with all the regal old homes and manicured, overhanging trees. The magnificent Biltmore Hotel is right there, along with the University of Miami campus and Venetian Pool. Then take in Coconut Grive, Vizcaya, Key Biscayne. So much more to the city than the South Beach crap.

The Keys are a couple of hours away. And a fascinating place called Coral Castle just south of Miami on US-1. A guy built a coral tribute to a lost love, and engineers to this day have no idea how he hoisted so much weight without modern machinery..

Heck, I have met interesting people on MetroRail. The Dadeland Mall is among the largest and busiest in the nation. There are weeknight bowling leagues at Bird Bowl and Don Carter's, very much in need of additional bowlers. Low average, no pressure at all.

I could go on for paragraphs. Not having a job is understandable and unfortunate, but no friends or nothing to do in South Florida should never be a problem.

14. miami is much cooler than naples....

...there are nice places to visit on the west coast of florida, but miami is a far more interesting place to live. there's more ethnic diversity and culture in dade...collier is whitebread.

carlos, you've got the everglades national park in your back yard, the atlantic ocean next to you, a big vibrant city all around you and the keys are a short drive south. when i lived in miami i had a blast (i came to texas because of a job and have been kicking myself ever since).

15. I don't think the job market

in Collier is as good as where you are now. Miami/Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties are where the work is. In addition to that, the Orlando area is booming. Also St. Petersberg and Tampa. Those are the areas where you can most easily find work. In northern Florida, you might try Jacksonville or Tallahassee. What exactly are you looking for? What kind of environment? Are you more interested in the job opportunities or location? If location, exactly what are you looking for? Small town atmosphere or city?
