Will Rush Lamebrain Commit Suicide?
Think about it-

He's been publicly outed as one of the top three hypocrites of the decade; he's a pill-popping junkie whose addiction cost him his hearing; he's facing months of rehab at the end of which he has re-emerge to face a skeptical, if not downright hostile public; AND he has to do it all without the drug crutch he's been leaning on for the past five plus years.

Is there a dead pool on Rush yet? I'd like to get in on some of that action.

71. Bets?
If he gets at all cleaned up, and then relapses (which is real likely, especially given who he is) his body won't be able to handle his old best friend like it used to. My money's on at least hospitalization from an overdose in the first year.

When he put in an order before going into rehab, he told her he "want to go out with a bang" or somesuch. Sounds suicidal.

I don't think he will commit suicide. In Latin America they have a saying "mala yerba nunca muere." Translated: a bad weed never dies.

It is a carefully thought-out position that refuses to legitimize the despicable tactics of despicable people.

By the way, I was speaking to the issue, not attacking you personally. Maybe some misguided irritation prevented your seeing some ground in between compassion (of which I have very little for Limbaugh) and wishing death upon him. There are other choices, you know.

I'm sick of these mamby-pamby librul bedwetters. Yes, people generally deserve compassion--unless they have spent the last 15 years spewing lies and drumming up hatred and made hundreds of millions of dollars doing it.

I have no doubt that Tim McVeigh (a Rush dittohead) bombed the Murrah building partly because of Rush's hatred of Clinton. McVeigh was a weak person and a coward who believed Wormtongue's lies and deceit.

I do not go around wishing death upon people.

Your semantic distinction could be correct. Your analysis could also be correct. That is not enough to make me legitimize Limbaugh in any way.

I appreciate that you and others may construct your questions differently. However, this is a matter of core values. I cannot be logically argued into wishing death upon Limbaugh or others, because I did not arrive at that position logically, and I don't feel like changing.

33. We are better than the freepers...
Only Rush the hypocrite deserves this kind of mockery from us. Most of the freakers are willing to take him back no questions asked. They are hypocrites as well. Drug abuse bad--except when Rush uses. Sexual behavior bad (Clinton), except when a pro-abortion, pro-gay rights, muscledheaded RINO married to a Kennedy does it. And it seems that most of the freakers are/were drug addicts as well, if you read the pro Vulgar Pigboy threads at freerepublican.com

Unless he's on methadone, right now Rush is vomiting, crapping diarrhea (which usually comes out of his mouth, not his anal cyst ass) suffering cold chills and intense pain. He's screaming for his mommy and wishes he was dead.

Fuck him. The world would be a better place without him. Sometimes you got to thin the herd, and I'd love to see Rush the drug addicted elephant's tusks mounted above my fireplace.

You think Rush can pull this off?

Step 8: We made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.

Step 9: We made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

First of all, that is an awfully long list. Secondly, can you imagine Rush asking for Bill Clinton's forgiveness? Or Rush making amends by admitting he lied/distorted Clinton's record and was wrong to personally attack him?

No way. His "career" is built on hate.

Good riddance to Rush.

62. Didn’t we get really pissed when Ann Coulter suggested
we all die or be killed? Turn about really isn’t fair play. What I hope happens is that Rush comes to terms for his reasons for self-hatred while in rehab. When or if he does he will have to speak the truth.

It would drive the dittos crazy that Rush had to get sober to start telling the truth. Think about it, they have been worshiping at the feet of a severely addicted junkie, Rush needed to get totally wasted to spew his venom. If he speaks the truth as a sober man what does that say about his followers.

He's a deadman walking now. If by any chance he stays out of prison after his third rehab, it's only a matter of time before the monkey crawls onto his back again.
If he goes into a twelve step program there is no way for him to honestly complete it, he'll die in an alley like other junkies who couldn't come clean and face themselves.

43. Many people who are caught in a scandal such as his - do become suicidal
Edited on Tue Oct-14-03 11:53 AM by janekat
Please note that I am not wishing this on him. Suicide affects the person's family and friends severely.

Rush will also have the problem of severe "withdrawl" symptoms after going off the painkillers.

Another problem - most addicts/alcoholics use their "drug of choice' as a "coping mechanism" - to help them cope with either stress, depression or mania. They are not good "copers" and that is why they turn to drugs in the first place. He will no longer have his drug to help him "mask" the pain of depression or stress - or to help "calm" him from a manic episode.

In addition, most Psychs who deal with addicts - do NOT like to give them any type of drug - including anti-depressants. This will be an added cross to bear.

It will be very tough for him. He will also have the "glare" of the media on him.

53. Depends on his ability to cope and upon his support system
also his wife. My guess is that his support system - if he wants one - could be strong (all of his obsessed fans who will wish him well). His wife is most likely a co-dependent person - since his problem was SO BIG and went on SO LONG and she didn't leave him - so she will not be much of a help. She will need MASSIVE doses of al-anon to be of any help.

However, he does not seem to have a history of being someone who turns to others for help - so THAT is not in his favor. I wonder if he is one who believes in "therapy" and/or psychiatry.

Usually, when someone commits suicide they have been in a depressed state for some time. They feel as if there is no hope - no light at the end of the tunnel. When they come out of the depression - that is when they'll commit suicide. People in the throes of depression do not have the energy or the mental capacity to plan a sucicide.

As for this thread being below our standards, I don't buy that that at all. Jeff Christie made a C-H-O-I-C-E to be on drugs. He can choose to get off. But in the meantime he should be in jail. Fat chance of that happening though. 25 mil a year buys you a whole different brand of justice. God if only Jonathan Wilson's buddies had something on him. Or maybe they do.

I'll throw a couple bucks into your pool. Now who else in the news today has done massive amounts of drugs and sacrificed their health?

A 46 year old music store owner from the St. Louis area, Elliot Sanders, is claiming that while a college student at Southeast Missouri University in 1971, he had an affair with Rush Limbaugh. Sanders claims that he and Limbaugh, the well known talk radio star, had an affair that went on for about 3 months in the fall of 1971...

When asked when he thought Limbaugh "went straight," Sanders replied, "What are you talking about? I mean, he's been married four times now, do people really not get why he doesn't stay married? I guarantee none of those marriages was ever consummated."

hehe

57. can't we think of better possibilities?
maybe Rush will undergo some kind of conversion. maybe he'll see the light, like David Brock ("Blinded by the Right") or Arianna Huffington. a kind of rebirth. wouldn't that be better than a mere suicide?

66. counterpoint
It's not Limbaugh that I care about. I think it's pretty clear to all that he is unethical and offensive in the extreme. When I argue that it's not a good idea to go around wishing death upon people, it is you and me and other civilized human beings who I'm looking out for.

72. That's not the way you do it
Recovery involves spirituality (not religious hoodoo, but actually love and respect for all living things). It's not easy, no matter what you may hear or think. Most people going through treatment not locked up will relapse within ninety days. Those who do make it are the ones ready to be honest, open-minded, and willing. Does that sound like the Pigboy?

I don't wish ill for anyone, I just wish for him to do what he needs to do. If a relapse and overdose is what he needs to do, so be it.

67. Oh, come on, this is disgusting...
We're talking about a human being. Regardless of politics, blow-hardedness, hypocrisy, hatemongering, etc etc etc. He's a fucking talk show host. He didn't order troops into Iraq or destroy the economy. He sits behind a mike and postulates about crap. Big effing deal, how much damage has he really done to the Left?

We're talking about a human being with a drug addiction. Advocating for his suicide and talking about a death pool is wrong. Forget about morals--have some ETHICS.

68. The other day I agreed with you whole-heartedly, but not today
I can't believe this thread has not been locked yet. I know they have received a number of alerts. My brother suffered from drug addiction and committed suicide and I can't tell you how offensive and hurtful this thread is.

I would hope wishing someone's death, no matter how much we hate them, would not be something tolerated on DU.

And what's up with moving it into the Lounge?

69. I wouldn't wish him any harm...
I hope his recovery is successful, unlikely as that may be in 30 days. However, I also hope it is a recovery for him in other ways. This might be the ideal opportunity for him to take stock of his life and how he spends it, and maybe come to grips with the fact that he is in the business of lies, distortion and character assassination. He might then make ammends to those he has damaged the most, particularly his loyal listeners.

Now THAT would be a recovery!

If we hope for his demise, we become him.

Regards,

Dave
