Freepers and Dittoheads know how to hate very well.
Edited on Tue Oct-14-03 01:25 PM by Homer12
They've had years of Clinton hating on their belts, years of liberal bashing and democrat bashing also.

They've got charater assination down to a science, and can lie better than anyone, anytime then we on the left could do.

They can ommit facts and evidence on a dime; By far their situational ethics are more highly evoloved than ours. They are hypocrites of the highest caliber.

That's right you lurking radical righties, you are superior to us in every decietful, un-democratic tactic there is. From re-distrecting to recalls, you are so mighty in the ways of the imperail dictates of the Neo-Cons.

Be proud, becuase your the brown-shirted storm troopers of the Right-Wing. The Fifth column of hatred, your ends-jusify-the means, to win at all costs.

You know what you are? Your used manipulated hatefilled people, who don't care about the constitution, the bill of rights, or even about your fellow American who does not think they way you do.

You have no right to call yourselves Americans!

2. they're losers and they know it
The niche is disappointed people, mostly men. Andrew Kohut, the highly regarded pollster for Times-Mirror, has described "the typical Limbaugh listener" as a "white male, suburbanite, conservative better-than-average job but not really a great job. Frustrated with the system, with the way the world of Washington works. Frustrated by cultural change. Maybe threatened by women."

Somebody, in short, who is not as rich, powerful or famous as he thinks he should be, and who wants to blame outside forces. The talk-show hosts help. They blame cultural (but rarely economic) elites and the government for the world's ills and regularly reinforce the listener's sense of being scorned and ridiculed.

6. Freeper & Dittohead
I have liked reading Free Republic and have listened to Rush for many years, though I don't recognize myself in your description.

I hope that I am more thoughtful about the many issues that arise concerning taxes, Iraq, health care, etc. Usually, my opinions tend to agree more with the Republicans than the Democrats. However, I think the best way to become informed is by reading whatever is available. Unfortunately, it is more and more difficult to read about an issue without being subjected to subtle and not-so-subtle bias. It occurs on both sides of the politcal spectrum.

I wonder why it is so difficult for people to disagree.

10. if you listen to Rush
Or read FR, you are highly misinformed. Hundreds of objective studies have determined that dittoheads and Fox watchers THINK they ar ethe best informed people, but truthfully are the LEAST informed.

You are an example of how dogma and ideology triumph over critical thinking.

13. I never claimed to be informed, only that I try
But how do you know that's all I read?

I'm here, aren't I?

What part of my post indicated that that I am an example of dogma and ideology?

But you proclaimed you were a freeper and dittohead, and I think the reason you are here is best left for the moderators to decide. :-)

22. When I use the terms freeper and dittohead...
Edited on Tue Oct-14-03 03:43 PM by Homer12
- the definition from my view-point is exactly how I described it in my post. Easily manipulated people that are fearfull, Rush and other Conservatives use this fear of (taxes, immagrants, the left, etc...) to garner support. Using fear in this way is a form of manipulation. I think many freepers and conservatives willingly let themselves be fooled and used by the right, some may not.
Dittoheads and freepers like to feel like victims becuase this justifies much of the behavior; conservative AM radio feeds this easily and its easily exploited.
It's easily derived from listening to Rush or going on Free Republic to see the anger at ANYONE whom has a non-accepted view-point, and in that instance, you'll get flamed personally and with hatred.

It also happens on DU, but from what I've seen, we are (for the most part) not as mean as them.

Just becuase you listen to Rush does not automatically make you a dittohead, or go on Free Republic make you a freeper. Even if you say you identify yourself as one does not make you one - this status is defined on how you behave toward others and how you act when dealing with an argument on DU.

See how Message #8 was deleted, this was a freeper.

17. If you are really interested in learning
then stick around and read the informed posts. There's a lot of smart people here. But if you post anything about liking FR or Rush, you are going to be flamed and removed.

And by the way, Are you talkin' to me?

Of course, I thought I should be treated civilly at Free Republic when I tried to have a little dialogue. I was banned after 2 (non-flaming) posts.

Anyway, poke around. If nothing else, you can get an idea of the range of thought on the left. It should make it clear that the media in general is not left-leaning, but center-right. It's just that outlets like Limbaugh, Hannity, and Fox News are so far over to the right that moderates look like communists.

20. I'm struck by the similar tone between DU and FR
I generally don't post at FR because it seems that even amongst themselves, they're very eager to starts fights and call names.

Perhaps because I'm married to an NEA member teacher, who is also a life-long democrat, I've become accustomed to disagreeing about politics without calling names.

23. Well, there are extremists on both ends, true enough.
I admit to my bias, but I have to say that I've noticed some distinct differences between the two sites when it comes to being mean. Free Republic goes straight to overt racism very quickly at times, for instance.

24. Bear in mind that the vast majority of us
even the vast majority of those reading this thread, are doing no name-calling or fight-starting.

If you're willing to listen and understand that this site's viewpoint is always going to favor Democrats (and understand that, particularly in the Lounge, there'll always be threads making fun of conservatives), then you'll be fine here. But both this site and FR have rules explicitly forbidding posters from trying to evangelize the "other" side's views - overtly conservative posters do get banned, if their reasons for posting are strictly to try to convert or badger people. You can BE a conservative and be welcome here, but proselytizing dittohead views earns no friends and gets posters quickly tombstoned.

Welcome to DU, Travis, and may you be more sane than your (movie) namesake!
