Also, I'd suggest that you avoid shopping at Food4Less (owned by Kroger), Pavillions (Safeway), and Sav-On (Albertsons)

Any other stores in SoCal owned by these 3?

1. Wonder...
if I should avoid King Soopers (owned by Kroger), Safeway and Albertson's here in Denver to support the unions in California. Would it make any sense?

2. Not sure... kinda a mixed bag...
... you'd definitely be hitting those 3 companies' bottom lines, but it would also impact the employees at those stores in Denver who aren't currently on strike or such.

*shrug* If you're really concerned, maybe you can contact your local UFCW and ask them. Otherwise, I'd say just keep shopping like you normally do... as long as you're not crossing picket lines.

7. Where the hell would you shop?
Criminy, if I boycotted KS, Albertson's and Safeway, I'd be left with friggin Walmart in my little suburb. It's a long ways to Wild Oats.

8. Hehe... don't shop at Walmart, either, of course...
... they ALREADY screw their employees and break unions. Kroger, Safeway, and Albertsons are just trying to join the club.

But are there seriously no local/independent/non-Big-3 grocery stores in Denver?

I know there's at least 1 Whole Foods Market, but I suppose that could be all the way across town and they can get a bit pricey and don't always carry everything u need. Great store, though.

3. Please, DO NOT cross the Picket Lines....
...CAers...you can get milk, bread and such at your corner 'Convience Store' and we can still buy fresh fruit and vegetables at our Community's 'Farmer's Markets' or Produce Stands.

We called our local Von's Store; asked to speak to the manager and asked him "What price for a half-gallon of non-fat milk, today?"
Then we told him..."It is ONLY 3¢ more at the liquor store around the corner and we will be buying there....until management settles with the Union."

"Yeah, well"..he said.

5. also
Mother's, Stater Brothers, Price Club, etc. We have a Plowboys and a Jons market too,

Shopped at Staters yesterday. There must have been 200 people there. They were out of a lot of food. Checker told me in the last two days their business has doubled.

6. Kroger, Albertsons, Safeway stores

Albertsons
In 1998, Albertsons acquired several other stores across the United States. By obtaining Seessel's, Smitty's, Super One Foods and Buttrey Food and Drug, and acquiring the assets of 15 Bruno’s stores, Albertsons was well on its way to fulfilling Joe’s dream.

The 1999 merger of Albertsons with American Stores completed the circle of friendship and hard work that began years ago between Joe Albertson and the Skaggs family. With the addition of Jewel-Osco, Acme Markets, Sav-on and Osco Drug stores, Albertsons is now the second largest food-drug retailer in the nation and operates under all of these banners.

Safeway

Today M.B.Skagg's value vision still drives Safeway, though on a dramatically larger scale. There are approximately 1,700 Safeway stores across the US and Canada. These include 329 Vons stores in Southern California and Nevada, 132 Randalls and Tom Thumb stores in Texas, 42 Genuardi's store in the Philadelphia area, as well as 21 Carrs stores in Alaska.
