12. Turn of the century banjo

...Actually a promo banjo my grandfather was given, made by Texaco for their company band. Which means it falls into the "petrolania" logo collection-nut category. One of a kind. Probably worth as much as the house.

Doesn't play well, though. The head has collapsed and the bridge lowered, so any fretting buzzes like mad. Appraising guy told me not to fix it, so it hangs on the wall next to its poor country cousin (my banjo). I'll give it a strum as I walk by. Sounds like history. :)

My college roomie had an old Hammond (not a B3) with an external analog "rhythm unit". I had so much fun with it while I lived there. I also helped him move in a very old, non working player piano, that we determined was originally on a river boat in the early 1900's based on the old coins and documentation we found inside while trying to fix it. It came from Missouri, so it was probably on the Mississippi.

I've always wanted an old Moog with patch cords, but I've never seen one for sale.

It's really not all that special; Bill made it a point to send one to every vet's survivors if they requested it. So someone who knew Dad asked him to send one to Mom, and she loved it.

Pros:
1. Toto's come with "non slamming" seats so men-folk can just push the seat at it goes down nice and slowly. (Why did it take 200 years to come up with this)

2. Better flushing mechanism.

Cons:
1. Toto's relatively new to the US so color selection isn't very good here. (Compared to Kohler, etc)

OK, they're prints. But they were bought at auction, and the small one was signed.

And a nifty cutout of a panda in black construction paper from China. Probably cost about ten cents on the street, but it has a very elaborate lace-like design. Shadow-boxed it in red lacquer.

And my favorite pieces of furniture -- a black leather Natuzzi sofa and armchair I got at a Scan closeout.

Is it worth anything? How do I tell if it's a forgery? Apparently quite a few in circulation at the time I bought mine (1980?) were.

49. The problem with Dali prints...

... is that towards the end of his life, he became rather indiscriminate about the quality/number of prints he commissioned and signed... so one has to be very careful when purchasing them, because the market is flooded with these prints from the end of his career.

30. Is a pinball machine considered neat?

I have a 1979 Williams "Flash" pinball bought for $10.00. After lots of schematic decoding, cleaning and rewiring, I have it 99% functional. Oh, and I also have a really scary "nerve stimulator" I bought at a GAO military hospital auction for a buck.

But the all time coolest thing I have is a driving simulator that was used for high school drivers ed in the 50's. I found it in my university's dump when I was in college. It's made of solid oak and has a full instrument cluster and pedals. I assume it was meant to be hooked up to another unit that showed a 16mm driving film, wish I had the rest of it.

my favorite neat thing i have in my house is a japanese samurai sword. my grandfather got it from a japanese soldier he shot in ww2. when he died he left it to me. i also have all his medals and the american flag from his funeral.

My two sons are the nestest.

I collect Beatle's stuff and I have about 150 records/cds/8 track tapes. I also havea sterling silver star with the letters "RB" on it. RIngo and Barbara gave them to all members of their wedding party. I bought it from a store in California that specializes in Bealte's stuff. It came with a C.O.A. and a pictures from People magazine. The pictures show the members of the wedding party wearing the star!

We have a fooz ball table and air hockey table.

We also have some neat memorabilia stuff. We have a framed pic of all of the male cast of the Sopranos. We also have a signed pic of James Gandolfini and Edie Falco. The cooled memorabilia may be a contract Winnona Rider signed. It was a Godfather III contract. She was supposed to do the movie but the official word was that she got very sick. The unofficial word was that she had a breakdown. It is a ocntract she signed that she never appeared in. My husband loves Rider and the Godfather series....ok, all but the last movie! Anyway, I gave it to him our first Christmas together. It is really neat. I have a friend who works at an art shop and she did a very fancy job on framing. Tres cool.

I also have a house full of food. I coupon and when you do that properly, you end up stockpiling. It's a 1956 Conn 10M (the "naked lady sax" for you sax-players), and it plays like a dream.

Aside from that, I don't own anything special to anyone besides me. Unless you count the concert ticket stub from when I saw Dizzy Gillespie. My old (now deceased) mentor, Johnny Lytle introduced to Dizzy after the concert. He was one of the most interesting, genuine, caring person I ever had the pleasure to meet.

12,000 pieces of collectible vintage sheet music from the 1820s to 1940s. Most of them are from 1890-1918. Great graphics, beautiful art work covers. I've sold a lot of sheet music; my best sale was $1100 for a piece I had paid $12 for.

A few thousand postcards, a civil war button from my ancestor's uniform, a history of Connecticut that belonged to an ancestor in the early 1800s, dozens of old leatherbound books from the 1700s and 1800s from a family homestead in CT, a lot of old photos.

Books, some first edition, some merely very, very old and all in sufficient amounts to utterly fill a large two bedroom apartment. In fact, one guy I dated briefly described my apartment to a mutual friend by saying "My God! The all the walls are covered with books and there's more piled on the floor!" Really, it's tidier than it sounds.

I also have a wide variety of exquisite china left me by my mother, as well as an ornate antique Italian tabletop mirror which once belonged to my great, great grandmother.
