Hey,
A month ago I posted to the lounge about meeting an apparent Mr. Right and wondering how to bring up politics. Well, it turned out that we are just as compatible politically as in other ways, and very much in love. That's great, but I notice a side effect: don't want to think about anything political because it spoils the high. I have noticed that friends who are extremely unhappy politically are often equally unhappy in their personal lives, and suspect a causal relationship.
In Dubya's America, has it reached the point that in order to be happy you have to ignore external reality? Or is it possible to be simultaneously aware of personal happiness and collective disaster? Somehow the strain between "everything is going wonderfully" and "everything is going straight to hell" is raising these existential concerns. How does one strike a balance?
