Some of you actually sound like you hope this poor guy "gets what he has coming to him" I know it's baseball. I'm a fan, too, and know how much it sucks when your team comes so close and blows it. But, number one, get some perspective, here. The guy caught a ball at a baseball game, something fans do all the time. He saw the ball coming and probably didn't even notice the player. Number two, the Cubs blew it all by themselves. They had an error and walked a batter right after it happened. I know, momentum, blah blah blah. These players are professional. If something like that affects them so much, then they don't deserve to go to the world series.

Last seen, the fan who tried to catch the ball was wearing a jacket on his head and being led into the underbelly of Wrigley Field for his own protection.

He may forever be referred to as "that fan" or any number of other names after he reached for a pop foul that Cubs left fielder Moises Alou was about to catch for the second out in the eighth inning of Game 6 of the National League Championship Series, with the Cubs leading 3-0 and five outs away from the World Series.

But the ball struck the fan's hand and bounced free, opening the door to an eight-run Marlins rally and an eventual Cubs loss.

Within moments, the fans down the left-field line began booing and chanting, "Get him out." The object of their scorn still sat in his front-row seat, wearing headphones and a Cubs cap, as the Marlins began to pile up runs.

"It cost us the game, pal," shouted one fan. Another fan tossed a beer cup toward the man's seat, but it fell short.

What a dweeb! No, he's not the fan who touched the ball. He is a fan who went to give the ball toucher a "piece of his mind" and refused to sit down when asked by Cubs security.

Sorry to name names. But drunken dorks who actually want their names in the paper regarding such behavior probably don't mind.

This story also offers the perspective of the firefighter sitting next to the ball toucher. I think it shows that not all Cubs fans were goofy out of their head about it.

42. The *REAL* explanation for the Cubs loss last night

SALEM, MA - Local spiritual authorities have confirmed that during the seventh inning stretch of the Cubs - Marlins game last night, an appearance above Wrigley Field was made by what can only be described as a Demon Billy Goat from Hell (aka DBGfH).

The DBGfH circled high above the field throughout the bottom half of the seventh. After the first out in the top of the eighth, the DBGfH seemed to hover over Left Field.

When a pop fly was obviously going out of play and Moises Alou was preparing to jump for the ball, the DBGfH entered the body of an as yet unidentified Cubs fan. The possessed fan moved his hand into the way of Alou's glove, blocking any chance for a catch and an easy out.

"I could see the evil black aura enter that poor man," said one spiritually aware Cubs fan. "It was like everything was going to become VERY VERY black. It could only be a Demon Billy Goat from Hell!"

That was not the end of the DBGfH's reign of terror on Cubs fans. It could be seen by those with spiritual awareness that the DBGfH was interfering with the game all over the field, helping Marlins batters, and at one point possessing the body of Alex Gonzales, the Cubs Shortstop, causing an error which may well have cost the Cubs the game.

Officials are working on methods to keep the DBGfH from making a reappearance in the crucial seventh game of the NLCS.

Homeland Security officials were investigating this as a possible terrorist event until a phone call was made from the governor's mansion of Florida to the White House, after which all investigations of the supernatural event were closed.
